Help Me Prioritize my Mods!

I'm 6 weeks into this Tacoma and enjoying it immensely. I do miss the ride height and rumble of my old V8 dual straight-pipe F-150. One of these elements cannot be replicated. The other can be remedied.

My first upgrades were sensible: Floor mats, side steps.
Then on to performance* mods: CAI + scoop, Magnaflow catback exhaust, Hurst shifter.

These were seemingly practical, unobtrusive mods all wife approved and financed by selling old truck & guitar parts. I might have some extra income arriving from music licensing royalties ($500-800) and I think this will allow me to do some more aesthetic mods to the truck. I can't do ALL at once so I need to do them in a sensible order that will keep my truck from looking like a work in process. So, without further ado, my mods list:

I'm leaning towards the headstrong lift first and foremost. I would LOVE to do a tire & wheel swap soon but I don't see that happening for a while since it's a significant investment and my current tires are practically new (9,100 miles). Anyway, what do YOU think the order of this list should be? No exceptions to these items so no yakking about "find a used beater kayak, do the lift one part at a time, etc". Oh, and THANKS!

 

I have the revo2s and I was impressed until they got about 15k miles on them. They are great on road and when it's wet but not so great in snow anymore or even mild off road and are wearing faster than expected. I prob have another 15k in then but I may swap with dynapro atms b4 they are even worn out

 

Another tire suggestion; Cooper ST MAXX. If you find a deal with Discount Tire you should be able to get them for your target price. I'm loving mine and there is a thread on here with lots of positive comments.

Now, personally I would go with the kayak either first or last. Once you buy it your truck mods will move down the list of priorities so you need to think hard about where it lands on the list.

May I ask why you want the CAI and exhaust?

 

I already did those. I did CAI because I had it on my previous truck and saw benefits. Same with exhaust. I'm charting my mileage right now and look forward to comparing the averages after my next tank of fuel. This is why I put an asterisk next to "performance."

 

I had Coopers on my '82 Firebird when I was a teenager. I lit those tires UP. I've had Firestone Destinations, which were good for about 20,000 before the noise and vibrations drove me crazy. I've had Michelins twice and they are a great tire but not what I'm looking for on this truck. I'm running stock Dunlops right now. This is my first Dunlop tire. I've not been offroad with them. While they say "A/T" on the sidewall I seriously doubt it. Thanks for the kayak tip.

I got the Bed Mat (toyota) as one of my first "Mods". Keeps everything from slidin, bangin and clangin back there.

That's odd. The revos are some of the best tires I have had. I don't think any set ever went for less than 50K miles. I've run them quite a bit off road as well as high speed on the autobahn and never had any issues with them.

 

yeah I heard nothing but good as well. im not impressed at all with them in the snow no that they have a few miles on them, and they are wearing quickly

 

Is your Connecticut snow different than our Georgia snow? We get snow every 2-4 years (usually late Feb to mid-March) and it's never more than 13". It's usually more like 4-7". We see a lot of rain in January and March too. I've read excellent reports for the REVO 2's in snow & rain. The snow capability is not a major selling point for me. I like the longevity of the Michelins and the look of the BFGs. I was hoping the REVO 2's would be a middle ground.

 

I would imagine there are differences from one lot to another in any tire. Maybe yours are softer than average? I've had 3 sets of revos that went from 50K to 60K miles easily and were far better than the two sets of BFG ATs they replaced for off road and snow conditions. On road they have been great. I would drive my avalanche to the governor on the autobahn and never had any issues with on road performance.

Maybe they worked better for me because of the weight. I have only used them on heavy vehicles. I plan on getting a set this spring for the Tacoma.

 

At any rate, I'm thinking 2.5" lift before tires + wheels. Big tires under stock height would look more silly than 2.5" lift with stock shoes & wheels. Sound right?

I had the revo 1s before i got my new tires and they did great in water never slipped even at 50mph in standing water at the end of there life. I got about 65-70k out of them but im a lighter truck. They also did more than enough for georgia snow/ice when i lived there now I wouldnt necessarily want them up here in neb now but thats a bit different snow wise

 

I'm totally unfamiliar with goodyears (noted). I see lots of guys saying "Duratrac" on here but I don't need anything that aggressive. I'm probably 90% on road these days and 10% on the farm (dirt, sand, clay roads, muddy fields, wet woods).

Have you looked into Michelin ltx m/s2's? They have great reviews and supposedly ppl get a ton of miles out of them.
The rrevo2s are fine in sand and dirt roads. Just not good in snow or ice.
