Post pics of your blacked out 1st gens! Wheels, grills, emblems, bumpers, anything! I have seen a couple really nice ones but need more ideas!

Also, are there any DIY threads on blacking out these parts?

ive thought about it, but i heard that the black paint tends to flake off pretty easy on toolboxes

Hey polkbassin, did you just spray paint your rims? Seems pretty easy to do, but also seems like the paint could chip off real easy. I read powder coating was the way to go, but the cost seems to be as much as just buying new rims.

I got this from another post:

This guy has done a great job. How did he get the bumper black? Spray paint as well?

If you prep it right, it will stick. If I would stop being lazy I could paint my bumpers. Maybe in a week or 2.

I have tried blacking out rims before with rattle can spray-in truck bed liner, I sanded it, then primed it with Krylon gray primer...for some reason they probably made a defective batch of that primer and it just fell off like dust. The end result was bedliner that would scratch off with a light scrape of a key or something lame like that.

I tried doing it without primer after that and it wasn't much better.

My truck was lined years ago, probably with herculiner or some other cheap DIY rubbery liner, and it's peeling in the corners.

I think that, even though I love it dearly, truck bed lining should probably be left to Line-x or Rhino if you want it to stay for years and years to come. Hey, maybe line your frame, so it won't freaking rust out:mad:.
