I think the scammer buyer was clever. He got the OP to send him a copy of the mailing receipt, with the reported weight of the package. It wouldn't take much to add crap to that package to meet the actual weight reported on the receipt, and say the seller sent it that way.

I believe you have a better chance to uncover all the truth with the postal
fraud inspector investigator. Beside fraud over the state line involves the federal agencies. Of course the weight stated on the receipt should remove you from any suspicion.

This, people are scum sometimes. I once sold something, got the paypal payment and shipped it. When I sent the shipping confirmation number the buyer tried to cancel the payment and said they didn't want the item anymore, but it was obvious they had waited to see it shipped first. I was able to keep my money but it was held for a month by paypal until they sorted through things.

Didn't the buyer first claim the box was empty and only filled with a few things of stuffing? Not sure how he would fit 9.3lbs of stuffing in a box unless op shipped it in a next box.

According to the OP, the buyer was stating that the box was not empty, but had "2 rolls of packing wrap in there".

Undetermined how much those rolls weigh, but probably could be finagled to be any weight needed to carry off the scam.

It would be interesting to see the pic that the buyer sent to the OP.

Whoa Whoa Whoa! Hold on a little.

That pic tells a story, of possible fraud from a carrier. Most people do not have rolls of film wrapping just hanging around in their homes.

When you declared the $1000 insurance, was the contents of the box ever disclosed to the Canadian Post? Was there a customs form or the like used, that disclosed the actual contents?

This could be actual insider fraud from a shipping entity or customs.

One other thing to consider, is where that pic was taken. Do you have a better (full size) pic, or any additional pics available?

I see what appears to be a work environment in that pic, rather than a home. Most home pics of packages occur on the floor, carpet, dining room table, etc. This pic appears to show a work table, another carton, and a vertical metal pole that might be used to hold film wrap.

A full pic or pics might help determine where that pic was taken. Was it at home, or the buyer's work station at his job?

Very good point. That pole looks like you would place one of those rolls on there to wrap a package.

Not sure if this is worth anything either, but that box is just a box stuffed with crap. Nowhere in that picture does it show your shipping label, name, receipts, etc.

So what if he has all your receipts that you sent along with your laptop. The picture he has taken and sent to you means nothing.

The op should google the original picture he was sent. It may come back to a photobucket and that will give you a time stamp if so.

But I agree that does not look like a house.

I think it was someone shady who worked at a canada post location that did this.
