Yeah I definitely don't want to lug it. I'm still learning the speed/rpm ratios of the gears, so picking the right one isn't 100% quite yet, but I've only had it for 29 hours lol

Actually, no it's not. My girlfriend is NOT impressed with this forecast. She's ready to be done with snow.

I really feel for all those with ice dams and the damage they are causing.
I will now jinx myself by saying:
My house doesn't have a single icicle anywhere on it. Front of the houses faces mostly north so it sees very little sun and has a farmers porch.

Very few icicles at my place too. Have to go to the in-laws this weekend and clear the snow off their roof though. Should be fun

My addition has some icicles, directly over the woodstove, from where the chimney pokes through the roof and melts the surrounding snow when it gets up to temp. The rest of the house is icicle-free. I added a layer of unfaced R30 to the attic when we bought the house, since the doubled-up layers of R19 had compressed a bit. Now I've got relatively little heat loss up there, and the gable vent faces the prevailing wind from the lake. So any heat that does make it through the insulation gets blown out through the soffit vents in the eaves pretty quickly.

Edit- Plus, prior to this week, my roof has been buried under 3+ feet of snow, so very little sunlight was reaching the shingles...

    Cool.
They're a great concept, but be careful you don't jam the blade/cutting edge under your shingles. Bet there's a lot of people ruining their roofs with that thing this winter.

Seriously, though, sounds like a good mod.
When I build my own place I'm just going with a standing seam metal roof and an 8/12 pitch, lol.

Just a tip for you guys using roof rakes, if you're not clearing the whole roof, don't just go up as high as you can, stagger the snow edge you leave. Otherwise, you can create another ice dam just further up the roof. Staggering where you leave the snow edge helps.

If you leave the snow line straight across, it can freeze straight across and create a new ice dam. Staggering supposedly helps the melting, makes it melt off unevenly so it melts off bigger sections faster and helps prevent future ice dams. This all coming from a roofing contractor but I've done it that way ever since. If you're scraping the whole roof, it's irrelevant.
