My point is that a S/C Tundra is no more or less "fun" or functional to most people than a chipped Diesel. Plus once you start pushing 1000 ft*lbs out of those trucks shit tends to come lose, no matter what mods you make.

I'm not throwing your mods under the bus. I live in Texas North (Alberta, Canada) where everyone wants a Diesel and those that have them mod the piss out of them. I've seen Diesels that would beat a Porsche off the line. Those are the same trucks that end up right back at the dealer because they have driveline issues no matter how much money they've chucked at the Transmission, driveshaft, rear end, etc.

If you want to tow, sure chipping a truck can help. I know for a fact though that running all that extra power isn't going to make for a reliable vehicle. I've never knocked you, here or on that other thread, for running a Diesel because you tow lots. For the average person though a Diesel sucks to maneuver around town and costs an arm and a leg to invest in and run if they only tow once in a blue moon.

I've driven a supercharged X Runner and a 3.4 4Runner. Both were pretty disappointing to be honest. I don't see the money spent vs performance gained as worth it.

But that's just like, my opinion, man.

Useless as a tool. BUT for the hell of it fun factor.. :) The only reason is for fun, it does nothing practical.

If you're putting a supercharger on a truck...

This is your benchmark for performance

Ahh yes. Turbo sports c... Love those. But one is more fun to drive on the road one would be more fun to drive off the road. Or like an asshole.

Challenger hellcat. I really like that car. Just needs a Manual

I feel like its the only muscle car atm. I don't like mustangs and the new Camaro... Vettes are cool but not as cool as other competitors.

I would go for an ACR 10 viper if I had the coin.. I don't care that its not the fastest or the best handling it would be thrilling!

    I can't see Youtube :(

And its not that its the BEST s/c truck ever.

I just think S/C Tundra > N/A Tundra because... Why not?

    Oh I was mistaken then!

Damn now the only thing saving me is I still need a truck. And I can't have both!

I originally had my S/C installed because I have property around the 6500ft. above sea level. I plan on doing a lot of hauling/trailering and such, so decided on the S/C install. However, it is a chit-load of fun to drive.

All I know is a 305HP/334 torque motor can haul a 4000lb trailer up a 6% grade much better than a 236HP/266 torque motor.

Is it worth $5000 to get that? Wasn't for me. The '05 4.7l Tundra stock hauls 4000 lbs pretty good. It does drop to 3rd gear on 6% grades, and gets about 8 mpg hauling 4000 lbs at 80 mph. Sure sounds nice doing it, though. Nice roar, no whine.

Yeah, I know, gotta plan lane changes well ahead of time, gotta keep your eyes way ahead of traffic. I do my traveling in the West, not much traffic on the interstates. It's not like in the East where there is 18-wheelers galore you have to maneuver around.

I pulled a metric shit ton of weight and the 6% grades in the mountains weren't as bad as I expected. I actually was very surprised how well the 236/266 did with the 6spd. I ran about 60mph cross country because the giant load and weight I was pulling anything more would have been unsafe and I would have blown trailer tires.

In the mountains headed up on 5 and 6 percent grades I ran 3rd gear, pedal down and maintained 55 most of the way. There were a few times when I would drop past 50 and second was needed to get it back but overall I was impressed. The s/c would have made it better.

IF I had the auto, with the weight I was pulling I would have had a LONG trip. And pulling a similar load with the Tundra, and the auto I got about 6mpg with a ton of shifting, vs 9.5 with surprisingly few shifts with the manual. If I could get a Tundra with a Manual heavy duty trans it would ROCK.

I used to run 80 with my trailer and play truck.

A truck in front of me lost a HUGE box that I thought was a fridge. Had a car on each side of me, so nowhere to go I hit it. Turned out it was a cabinet or dresser, something made of wood.

Lost 2 trailer tires on the same side.. It made a dangerous situation and I learned to slow down.

If I was out in the boonies running with no traffic I would probably still fly. :)

Unless you really "need" a horse to get to work or home, all the fancy suspension set-ups we see here are also useless. In fact, do we really "Need" all these fancy rims and aftermarket grilles, Do we really "Need" Zombie light switches in our Tacomas?

Do any of us really "Need" a Duramax?

    Yeah...I thought so....

The fun of all of this is belonging to a forum that helps each of us out on whatever modifications we "want" to perform on our trucks. I installed a TRD Pro suspension on my Tacoma...do I really need it?...Hell no! :)

What someone else "wants" or "needs" is a matter of personal taste and guarded opinions. Just like some favor a manual tranny over an automatic.

And why is your opinion so important?

I'm a big fan of small displacement engines that get the most out of them with turbochargers or superchargers, but I like the sound of a V8.

The 2016 Taco should be alright as a tow vehicle if they get the numbers up to 280HP/310 torque. The curb weight will be about 4200 lbs so the power isn't being scrubbed by excess weight. It won't sound as nice as a V8, but it will be a nice tow vehicle for a midsize and still have better offroad capability than the competition.
