So on my hood on the edge by the fender the paint feels rough. You can't tell a difference looking at it but it doesn't seem to have a clear coat. Its a 2013 so the paint isn't old at all. Did they cheap out on the paint in the 2nd gens?

I searched but came up with nothing.

Take a stroll on your dealer's lot and see how the paint is on the other Tacos.

The clearcoat gives it the gloss. If you can't tell a difference by looking, then the clearcoat is there.

That or the hood got a stone chip in transit and the dealer touched it up.

Have you tried a clay bar on it?

Not all colors have clear coat, some are single stage colors. What is yours?

No clear on a two stage paint would have a very dull appearance where the clear was missing.

I suspect it needs a good cleaning.

Even when it's 'new' doesn't mean the paint doesn't need attention, an alignment isn't in order or that the fluids and tire pressures don't need checking.

its Magnetic grey. I tried buffing out that spot but it feels like overspray just on that one spot.

Did clay bar and it helped a little might need to work on it some more. When i bought it it was covered in that road salt substitute( can't think of the name) The trucks here spray it everywhere. I don't want to hurt the paint more if theres no clear coat. I don't want to work it so much that I make the situation worse.

Clay won't hurt the paint. You can't rub it too much with that. Keep it lubed and keep working.
