Long time lurker who hasn't posted much. I have to say this is an awesome site and has helped me on numerous occasions, most recently fixing my circuit board in my temp/compass computer.

Regardless, I'm getting to the point I'm not sure I will purchase another Tacoma. My current ride is a '07 Toyota Tacoma Quad Cab TRD. This is my 5th truck as I tend to keep my trucks for a minimum of 10 years. I have owned GMC, Ford, and Nissan prior and have to say this truck has given me the most problems.

I have had to fix the circuit board as mentioned above, no biggie just a nuisance. Next, per recall had the gas pedal fixed. Next recall dealt with the frame, luckily passed inspection and they coated it with a protective substance. Then my leaf springs break on the passenger side, I go to my local Toyota dealership and they say no recall and want $2,500 to fix. I consult this forum and $1,500 later I have new springs installed. Shortly thereafter I get another recall about the potential for springs breaking, no kidding. I contact Toyota 3 times and still no reimbursement, keep telling me they haven't figured out the remedy yet, really!? This is going on 7 month from installation and notice.

Needless to say I'm really disappointed in this truck and Toyota dragging their feet on reimbursement for something that should have never broken in the first place. I take care of my truck and it never goes off-road. Never had these type of problems with other brands. I need some feedback if this truck is worth the hassle......

Actually wish I would have found this site prior to my 2012 purchase. I love the truck so far but damn...... recalls for something as basic as you mentioned above. Time will tell I guess.

Sorry to hear about your issues. But honestly, it sounds like you've already made up your mind. Vehicles are no different than anything else. Once you've emotionally "checked out" on something it's usually time to move on.

Ive had every other make of truck and the tacoma has gave me the least problems. I had an 03 tacoma with 300k+ on it and didn't fix one thing. Had a chevy colorado that was alright but little things broke on it. The ranger was alright but still had its issues.

The tacoma is the most reliable out of all of them. Every manufacture has recalls and nothing is indestructible. You might be one of the unlucky ones with your situation but for every one bad experience theres 100 good ones. People tend to post there problems and thats what you tend to see on any forum. Therefor it makes every vehicle seems like a problematic hunk. Go on a colorado forum or ranger forum and see for yourself.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Try the Nissan, then. I put 300k on an 84 KC 2wd and played with a $400 93 Hardbody that didn't do me wrong. I know the Frontier is top shelf. Please report back here if you decide to go that way! Maybe kick some ass.

Maybe you could give us an example of a truck that has not had recalls? Sorry but I don't think I would have got 285,000 miles out of a Chevy or Ford with as few problem I have with Tacomas.

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
I think the problem here as compared to your old trucks.. Old trucks were much more simple. The more shit they add the more shit there is to go wrong.

I agree, I hate the little problems but overall its been pretty good for me. Then again, some things that were designed to fail like the front wheel bearings are just fucking stupid and piss me off.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

^^ also, currently there are more recal supported issues with Toyota. But less issues overall than others.

You have no idea how good you have it. My wife's GMC has recalls like I have never seen before, it is ridiculous.

Go by a GM, just don't put anything on the key ring or your car will shut off while driving

Just be glad they stand behind their products and fix things with the recalls. My sister has a nissan altima, and her drivers side floorboard rotted completely through. I mean completely, you could see the road through the floor of her car. You could have flintstoned it with her car. I guess its not an uncommon problem with them. Could you imagine the lawsuits?

I disagree, are you saying old trucks didn't have frames? Or leaf springs? Accelerator pedals? Blower motors that don't tick/squeal. Clutch pedals that don't make noise? Throw out bearings that make noise?

I like Toyotas as much as the rest of you, but I agree with the OP, I'm getting sick of these issues.

At least Nissan corrected there rotting floor board issue on the Altima, The a Tacoma has had all the above issues for 20 years and have yet to correct them.

I am having a hard time fluffing off frame replacements as a minor issue, come on guys it's literally the back bone of our trucks! It's not a small minor inconvenience and it goes back to the 96 tacomas.

    Shawn.

My wife's GMC Acadia I wish would get recalls....had the damn wave plate break 3 months out of warranty and had to put a new tranny in at 55,000 miles. Thing is GM knows about the problem but say it's not a safety issue so no recall. Now I hear people are having timing chain issues! I had a Chevy before my tacoma but will never get another GM.
