Celebrated my 1 year anniversary of Tacoma ownership today with a wash. Happy V-day to me.

In year 1 I got a topper, installed full OME, built sleeping platform, installed trailer hitch, broke and replaced two door handles.

On the deck for year two: bedliner, aux reverse lights, headlight swap (not sure what), bench to bucket seat swap ...and?????

This photo is just after I finished the construction. Since then I cut the center piece of plywood in half short ways so I can remove half the bed for access, hauling tall stuff, etc. I have also sealed with whole thing with marine grade varnish, and added a little closed-cell foam for padding on top. 4 Pieces, comes out or goes in in less than 5 min. But honestly, I usually just drop the two center pieces down and keep it all in there. The 3/4" maple plywood looks good, and holds two people on the 30+ inch span no problem.

If you want current pics let me know.

This....it's right about 13"...a short bed is the same it's right around 55" bed length...between bumper and hitch sticking out I shortened a total of 21" off the rear...13" bed bumper another 6 and hitch 2 or 3...

Also cut about 10" off frame....

If memory serves the size for a short bed canopy on a Toyota is 54 or 55"....my last excab 2as bobbed 13" and a short bed canopy is what i was looking for....

And I removed 13" of actual bed out of the middle rear....

CB question for y'all. Anybody have experience with the 6' KW Firestik? I have a 3' FireFly now, but I think it would be neat to get a longer one and tie it to my roof rack. I'd like to get a steel whip, but 8 feet just looks rediculous when it's up in the air. So I guess what I'm asking is if the 6' firestik is flexible enough on a spring to bend forward like I want, or is there a steel whip antenna that will mount to my firestik mount or spring that's shorter than 8'? Sorry, that's kinda a lot of typing

    Well..i can tell you...Don't get a 6' or and 8'.

i have a 5' on my bed rack and have gone through 3 springs and even the current one barely can cope with it. It moves so much too it'll smack the ground.

Don't get me wrong, i like the 5' one but if you're going to put it on the roof, a 3' will be plenty.

my mount folds down for when i am not using it. works great.

Looks fairly similar to mine, but your craftsmanship is way better! I have had 2 people and an 80lb pit in mine. It was a little cramped but not bad.

Still would not advise a 6'. That said the antenna itself probably wouldn't like that. With a spring it would easily. It'll barely stay up right with a spring while your driving anyways.

There is a funny YouTube video of me crossing a river and the best part is watching the damn antenna almost smack me it moves so much. Think Jon has it somewhere..

In organized off-road runs (like Jamborees and Sierra Trek), for safety reasons, long whips are not allowed. Observers and spotters have been injured by these things whipping around in a tight trail.

Hm. Maybe I should just bump up to a 4' flexible fiberglass with a spring then... I guess function over form is coming into play here
