low MPG's....Suggestions?

Hello all.
2011 4X4 Dbl cab

As you can tell by the title, I am having issues with very low MPG's(like 14.7 HIGHWAY). I am asking for suggestions as to what may be causing the problem. So far, I have not done many MODs to the Ignition/Intake/Exhaust. The few that I have done are:
Exhaust: JBA cat-back

Intake: K&N intake system
Throttle body spacer

Ignition: Iridium plugs

I also have 265/70/17 tires over stock, but I don't think that it would affect the MPG too much.


I am planning on going back to stock plugs. If I have to, I am also going to replace the MAF sensor. The only thing, and my theory of what the culprit may be, is the K&N intake. I have already cleaned the MAF sensor a few times, but I think that the oil from the filter has messed it up and the gas to air mixture is bad. I am thinking of replacing the cone filter and using a dry filter.

What MPG did you get at all stock?

 

go back to the stock intake and stock plugs (get new ones they are like 2-3 bucks a piece).

No need to replace the MAF, just make sure its cleaned, its not likely the culprit.

How fast are you traveling on the freeway.... past 65mph MPG's TANK AT A RAPID RATE!

Also loose the throttle body spacer... those havent done jack diddly shit since the era of throttle body injection of the mid 90's... the only spacer that does something is an intake manifold spacer which goes between the upper and lower intake manifold making the intake runners longer increasing mid range grunt.

 

17, creeping onto 18....bone stock.

 

Also, any extra weight on the truck? Topper? Tools in the back?

 

What % of your tank on average is Hwy vs City?

 

I have already ordered the stock Denso plugs. I have also thought on removing the spacer.

 

about 75 city and 25 highway.

 

Only drive downhill with the truck in neutral and your foot off of the skinny pedal. That should greatly improve your MPGs.

 

too bad there are no hills here in Lubbock or I would. The city MPG's are killing me.

No hills huh. Well that's too bad. If it's windy there you could try this:

Have you checked your tire pressures?

 

35psi with BFG KM2's

 

Are those E rated? I wouldn't say that is the complete reason but that would be a heavier tire compared to stock which could drop a little, not a lot though.

 

Hey there is a way you can instantly gain at least 5 MPG with a very simple and legitimate modification...


Change your tires from the stock 265/65/17 to 245/30/17
