Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
No, old trucks had those same issues.

Old trucks had much less advance fuel injections, did not have traction control, obd2, abs, nowhere near the level of emissions control crap... They didn't have fancy electronic compass computers or digital screens to go bad. No crash safety computers, no drive by wire issues. etc etc

Old trucks did have frame issues. Rust has always been a problem. Granted the Tacoma is worse than some, even many. But who else has bought back thousands of trucks at 150 percent high book value, or offered free replacements under a recall?

Nissan has had just as many problems in recent years. Head gasket issues, BS rear diff issues, faulty electronics..

There is more shit to go wrong now. Period. I agree, I am tired of little things but I will take Toyota putting out a recall and at least giving a shit over the issue just being ignored forever any day.

The Tacoma is not perfect by any means. But even with all the recalls it is still leading in reliability..

Just another question about recalls. Does anyone blame the government for MOST of the recalls that manufacturers have? Being in my position at work the government mandates alot of BS that manufacturers have to comply with. Another reason things cost so much nowadays. Back up cameras standard by next year??? Are you kidding me, just turn the f@&#£ around and look where your backing up. Most of us never were in seat belts as kids growing up, we're still here. Yes somethings make sense but come on, govern mandates so much crap nowadays that manufacturers scramble to keep up and not alot of real world testing is done. Anyways that's my grip for the day...

I'm pretty loyal to Toyota trucks since I've been driving them for 25 years. But I do quite a bit of work on other makes for friends and family and I can honestly say although the current Tacomas certainly have their issues they are a heck of a lot more reliable than anything the big 3 have turning out during the same timeframe. Especially Dodge. I've done a lot of stuff on Dodges with under 100k miles that I would be absolutely bullshit about if I owned them. Yet their owners consider it normal... As for the whole frame rust issue I think it's fantastic the way Toyota is stepping up to the plate and covering it. Think GM, Ford, or Dodge would do that? No way. One of my friends scraps an awful lot of 99-04-ish GM 1/2 tons due to rotted frames too.

Oh and $1500 for leaf springs? I would be upset too but you should have looked around some more. Mine broke too and it cost me about $340 delivered for a pair of replacements from General Spring that took me about 2 hours to bolt in. Yet I'll be happy to have Toyota toss them in the scrap pile for a set of the "new" 4 leaf replacements. But I'm sure Toyota will refund you once the remedy is in place. I replaced an airbag clock spring in my last tacoma that they later recalled. I submitted my invoice for the part to them after they changed it again and got my money back about a month later.

You should have seen the maint req on my friends 2008 f150. He talked mad shit about my Tacoma. He brought it over to change the plugs and it ended up being

-plugs, wires, 2 coils, rebuilt head.. then brake pads because front and rear calipers (the pistons were cracked, with a large part missing) I have never seen that before. And it was on both front and rear disks.

HE BOUGHT A TOYOTA THE NEXT YEAR. And has been happy ever since.

The biggest problem I've been seeing is that all the manufacturers are letting accountants build the new vehicles, this constant trying to save a couple bucks during the mfg process is what is causing a lot of the problems
Cost cutting, and trying to save on labor costs, plus the new technologies, and government mandates
It all adds upto TSBs and recalls:mad:

I feel like Toyota has a particularly bad reputation about recalls due to the whole "idiots who didn't know how to turn off the ignition when their priuses weren't stopping" debacle. The timing of that whole thing was suspect as well given the federal government had a monetary interest in GM and Toyota was the #1 brand at the time.

Get a Mechanic just announced another recall, 81,000 cars where the power steering could suddenly fail. We live in the age of the recall. I think there's been a lot of junk over the years from all makes that was never recalled. Today the scrutiny is more, and they are afraid of mega lawsuits. I was a Chevy man for years, but the last two I owned, I lived under the hood to keep them running.
That being said, I understand where the OP is coming from. Toyota has had their share of issue's in the last several years. I think one of the biggest problems from all makes these days involves cheap parts from China.

You're not going to get any complaints from me regarding recalls, or such. At this point, I'll take any recall they can muster up. I just had the frame replaced, including new springs and control arms, at no cost to me, on an '05 Tacoma with some 280k miles on it. Tell me what other company would do that? Let's put this in perspective, a ten year old truck with nearly 300k miles. And, yes, I understand just how ridiculous the need for a new frame is/was; as my '66 Mustang's original frame was in MUCH better shape.

Took the words out of my thumbs.lol

These trucks have there issues just like other vehicles, compared to my Jetta and 325i though, this truck is gods gift. I've had so may other problematic vehicles that to me Im thankful the tacoma has its few issues. Not to mention toyota backs up the mis engineered problems most of the time.

I'll take the recalls too. Waiting on new springs now. I hope they use a better Chinese spring maker this time!

after dealing with my 2001 Chevy 2500hd, needing a full trans, transfer case and torque converter rebuild, a radiator, knock sensors, o2 sensors, all the idler pullies, 4x4 electrical, body mounts, steering component replacement, window motors..... ALL before 100k miles..

Yeah, no thanks. All of which were TSB items that chevy refused to to for free.... unlike toyota.

I strayed from Toyota for 6 years when I bought a new 07 Colorado Z71. It had a few recalls for a steering column shaft, brake switch, leaking third brake light, and a defective fuel sending unit. Then hey also replaced the head under warranty at 70,000 miles. I put 95,000 on it then got rid of it.

I'd say about six months after owning the Chevy I regret my purchase. I should have gotten the Tacoma.

Don't even get me started on the abysmal resale value.

GM would just wait until you were killed and then pay off your family but the pesky government forces them to do the right thing. Toyota seems to care a little more.

oh also forgot the 2 front hubs, rear carrier bearing and all rear u joints before 100k as well.

Moms 99 suburban had a headgasket go, 2 full sets of injectors, and a transfer case rebuild before 100k as well..... hell back in 2007, when my mom wanted to get a new vehicle, the dealer we bought it from (a chevy dealer) would not accept it as a trade in because it had 107k miles on it.... they stated "We do not accept american made cars as a trade with more than 100k on the clock", yet they had NO issue giving us a trade in value on my dads beater 89 toyota pickup with 190k miles on it.... Tells you something about how reliable they thing their own product is.

Thanks for the replies all. Looks like I need to clarify a few things, the leaf springs were $1,500 installed, I purchased leaf springs and shocks recommended on this site and from the fine folks at Wheelers, they even gave me a discount when I told them how I was referred, installed locally. I live in Maine, if you've watched the news lately you'll see we get 2' dumps of snow every other day, we currently have 5-6' on the ground, hence the need for a 4 x 4. I also hunt so I am on back roads quite a bit, I just meant I don't go 4 wheeling with my rig.

My other trucks over the past 30 years were 2 GMC K1500s 4 x 4, 1 Nissan Hardbody 4 x 4, and one Ford Ranger 4 x4, none of those trucks had the recall issues, nor the general issues this truck has had. I was just looking for some opinions since I like the truck otherwise.

Current issue though is in cold weather the freakin' steering is acting like there is no power steering, damn dangerous, after searching this forum seems it's a known issue. I either have to spray the hell out of the steering linkage or replace it. Wondering if this issue will wind up in a recall too. This is getting old fast........
