Hope that works... otherwise it's internal, throwout bearing, shifting fork, etc...

Every hydraulic clutch I've ever owned has been stiff in weather below 10 degrees. But after a quick warm up its back to normal. NEVER had one stick to the floor.

Well I guess I won't worry too much. Have others experienced this with other vehicles? Maybe it's more normal than I thought? At 25 I have only done so much driving...

Busted CV boots and lots of squeaks.
Mine is also the same way. On cold starts, the pedal is slow to rebound. It doesn't take long for it to warm up and bounce back like normal.

My 97 wrangler is the same way.

Clutch plate? Not a Tacoma owner but do own a 1997 4runner, only time my clutch was slow to return and I live in Ontario, Canada, it was the pressure plate.

I agree ! something strange going on with the pressure plate .
its not normal for the clutch pedal to stick in the down position .

I could understand the pedal being a little slow to return when its cold

They just replaced the plate. There was a tsb on it. It did not fix the problem.

They replaced the pressure plate, clutch plate and master cylinder. They are doing the slave cylinder weds morning. Are any of those synonymous with release cylinder?

Well they've swapped out the slave cylinder but it's only gotten down to 20 degrees Fahrenheit since then so I don't know if it's fixed for sure yet. The clutch does feel lighter though.

I'm curious if a less viscous fluid like DOT 5.1 would work better in these temps. That stuff is compatible with DOT 3 and 4 fluid.

I mentioned the fluid to them. They said if the dot 3 was the problem in cold weather they would have the issue all the time.

Mine is doing about the same. I understand it on cold starts but driving down the road mine starts to stiffen again if I'm not shifting constantly.

It was down to about 10 degrees this morning. Clutch was not stiff or sticky... I think the slave cylinder replacement fixed it...

It's -2 now and supposed to hit -8 tonight. I'll check in the morning to see how it behaves. If it's not better, I'll notice it then.

So it was -18º F last night and I went to start it up this morning. The clutch is no better at this temperature. Here's a video showing it:

    http://youtu.be/Y8YUeRsWSCg

In the video you can see that the clutch does not follow my foot. When pressing it in it feels like I'm pushing through cement.

CMC=clutch main cylinder? That didn't seem to do it for me.
