30K Service??? How Important?

How important is the 30K Service?

I have a TRD SPORT 4x4 DC LB v6 Auto

300 from the dealer to inspect things and change the plugs??

What typ of plugs do you guys use that have done this yourself?

i did my 30k service on a saturday morning. synthetic oil and diff oil costs a little extra...but well worth it. i used the standard copper denso plugs....got them from the dealership for around $4 a piece. all together....the service took me about 2 hours........maybe 2 and a half.....and i was taking my time. well worth it to do it yourself if you are able.

 

Yes...30,000 mile service is important.

Do some research and you can do all that at home by yourself or with some buddies....

 

I am already getting the reaf leaf TSB and he said my truck has the newer tailgate? Built april of 06 anyone know that for sure?

I feel comfortable doing the oil and plugs just thought i would ask you guys...
the diff i have never done... i am sure i could figure it out. do i need any gaskets?

 

for the rear diff....you can get the crush washer for it from the dealership for about $3....i think thats about what i paid for it........but i ended up using the one that was already on it...just turned it around. so now i have one for next time.

Or are you referring to the oil drain plug gasket?

Sorry, but when you said crush washer - I personally immediately think of the copper washers that go on your brake lines.

 

no....im referring to the "crush" type washer on the differential drain plug....not the little black oil plug gasket.

 

I've never heard of a *crush* washer on an oil drain plug.

Is it metal? Copper?

The black rubbery oil gasket is just fine... it's only prevents leaks. There's no pressure behind the system to need a 'crush' type washer (like brakes need crush washers)

 

the one that was on my rear diff drain plug,and the one i got from the dealer was metal....almost aluminum like, and it definitely crushed a bit when i tightened it down. i actually reused the one on the plug,just by flipping it over and putting it on backwards......so next drain time, im gonna use the new one.

 

Weird...wonder why they did that? Is that what Toyota calls them?

I must be old school... crush washers are designed to crush and seal high pressure systems (like brakes). Once you *crush* them, you can't use them again (they don't crush any further).

 

not exactly sure what they refer to them as at the stealer....but i'll keep on saying its a crush washer....since it does crush down a bit. the stealership may just refer to them as a differential plug washer, but like i said....not too sure.

 

Damn, you guys are gonna laugh at me. I had the dealer do my 30,000 service this past Wednesday. I needed front brakes too, so the total bill, after taxes ofcourse, was.........

No, it hurt REAL bad, but with no free time to devote to maintaining the Tacoma, I didn't have any choice. It started with the serpentine belt squealing and then ballooned from there.

 

Dang dude, I would call around to other dealerships (if thats where u wanna take it) and get phone quotes. I had a nissan and the dealer told me I needed new belts and it would be $400+ (at only 60,000 miles) told that guy to suck it and took it to another dealership who told me it's fine! drove for another 40+k miles before I got rid of it with the same freakin belts! Dealership service people can be a$$holes.

 

You have to change your plugs at 30K miles? I thought they were good for 100K?? I just got an 08, but my last Tacoma was an 04, and I did not chnage the plugs until 125K, and the truck still ran great with them!!

 

on the 4 cyl models....you dont have to change them until 100k....they come from the factory with iridium plugs....the 4.0v6 needs to be changed at 30k....they come with standard copper plugs.
