Yea he has the FJ box. I must have missed that, so r151 is a good bet. And cool too.

Hmm, never thought I'd have to mill the bell, are the lengths of the input different? Haha I'm already loving the idea of it. I really love my taco, that's why imma just add more tacos not trade it for a new one.

I'm hoping it's only because I didn't set my torque converter all the way back, heard no clunk at all. Did do that today, but found out the little pilot nub on the front of the torque converter broke off in the crank.

Is there a way to remove it?

Maybe a quick spot weld and a reverse hammer .
Those Toyota crankshafts have very tight tolerances . It helps if you use emery cloth and test fit the converter in the back of the crank before install . You are going to have to remove it mind you . You need the room for a new pilot bearing if you are going with a manual

That was what I was afraid of. I have a welder but no slide hammer (pretty sure we're talking referring to the same thing) could I just weld and use something to yank it out?

Welding something to the broken converter pilot is fine , but i would make sure the surface is cleaned up really well so the new pilot bearing fits perfect . Going to need some Loc-tite for the new pilot bearing

Yes the input shaft on an r151 is shorter. The early r150 and the r151 had shorter input shafts and bells. 96 and up r150 got a longer shaft and helical gears so its not a straight swap for the input shaft.

I can't remember the actual numbers for lengths, but the r155 is a longer shaft as well. Its not very much and there is enough meat on the r155 bell to mill it out from what I read when I looked into it.

Marlin used to make a conversion bell for r151 to 3rz but took it off the market when the 2tr-fe bell was found to be an easy mod.. And readily available. 2tr and 3rz share the bell pattern, but 2tr has r series trans and 3rz has w..

I'd try drilling and tapping the broken convertor pilot for 3/8". then put a long bolt through a washer, larger deep socket, and thread into the broken pilot. Use the deep socket as your slide hammer.

Welding on assembled engine components would be a last resort, and MUST have a perfect ground connection on the same piece being welded on. Use a bolt-on lug rather than a clamp to prevent arcing and damage to other components - bearings, oil pump, etc in this case.

I have some left hand drill bits I use for broken bolts.

this is a good idea, or autozone has loaner slide hammer's.

Oh ok, I understand now what you mean by getting the bell milled. Lol. That makes the milling part not sound scary them.

Drilling I think will be a pain tho, being so cramped underneath. I don't have many drill bits and no tap set. Welding right now might actually be my only resort as I have my Lincoln readily available. Sorry off I sound off, just really stressed my taco ain't done, I really wanted to go to the la grange meet this weekend.

    Hey its all good!

I wouldn't be afraid to weld it myself. If you are confident in your ability to weld, just don't heat soak the thing and you should be fine. Disconnect anything that could be damaged electronics wise and get a good ground.

I have grounded on the crank bolt in the front myself. My theory being that the crank and bolt are a good clean straight through path for a ground. I did not want to ground to the block because it would have to pass the oil and bearings. And I did not have a nifty grounding bolt. You could ground on a bold off the back of the crank as well but will be cutting down your space. If you can deal with less space then it might be a better ground because its very close.

Mine were manuals, maybe you could find a place on the flex plate?

Yeah that's what my teacher was afraid of, said it could screw with the bearings. Imma try external extractors and try that to see if it comes out. Teacher said it should come out easily if I could get a grip on it.

If there is a nub to get a grip. Could you get a picture?

That's the big problem of it, there's no way to get a grip on it, except for removing out with a extractor or welder as stated for last resort.

I'll try to snap one tomorrow, I got school the rest of tonight.
