    Talking about unrealistic expectations. :D
Pretty much look at Colorado or Canyon and Toyota maybe close to those numbers.

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.

Not very impressive given GM's ecotec v8 gets the same (I had one) and colorado get's the similar.

This is what I've been screaming at the top of my lungs for so long. I'm sitting here like, "You mean to tell me I don't get a V8 and I'll get WORSE gas mileage?"

A long time ago the midsize truck market WAS all about efficiency. The ability to get a ton of stuff done by having a light, efficient, tough truck. But now the full size trucks are legitimately just as efficient if not MORE efficient (in chevy and fords case). You want to know why the midsize truck segment is a barren wasteland? It's because few people are willing admit to themselves they don't NEED a full size and the midsize isn't any more fuel efficient; so they just buy a full size. There isn't really a compelling argument NOT to buy a full size truck. Back in 2009 I realized that for the price of the TRD Sport I wanted I could have a full size truck. The only difference is I WANTED a smaller truck.

Sigh....this thing better get AT LEAST 27mpg highway or I foresee hell being raised. :(

I just realized the RAM 1500 with the base V6 engine gets 25mpg on the highway. How the hell can that thing get better mileage with a V6 than a midsize...that's insane. And the EcoDiesel model gets 29mpg on the highway making it legitimately the most fuel efficient truck on the market. More fuel efficient than a stripped out 4 cylinder manual tranny tacoma. I live in Dallas and I could get to Santa Fe without filling up....and I'd still have 100 miles left on the tank. I think I'm going to throw up.

I completely agree. Seriously, the main selling point for a midsize is fuel economy. Why would I ever want a midsize that gets worse MPG than a full size??? WTF??????

Toyota better step it up or the value proposition for the Tacoma will evaporate. They will then have to decrease the purchase price to compensate, or they will sell a lot less Tacomas.

That's because our trucks are as close to fullsize as it can be. Weight is there, size is almost there. On the end it does not matter if you have 2L I4 or 10 L V12 If weight is the same and cross section is the same both will burn the same amount of fuel to get you from point A to point B.
Hence why I dont understand why Toyota could not make V8 optional with bumped towing and payload.

So mileage will be the same to F150 (or lower because tiny engine needs to scream to get the same power) but towing and payload is goign to be mediocre.
Toyota logic fail. No wonder Ford sells almost as many F series in a month that Toyota sells trucks in a year.
Talking about getting out of touch with reality.

The reason why MPG is not so good for mid-sized truck? Money. You want good MPG and efficiency tech? You gotta pay up. That fuel tech costs money to develop and produce. It makes more sense for any automaker to put that tech in a more-profitable full size truck.
That is the reason econo-boxes like the Honda Fit and Chevy Spark get GOOD MPG but not great.
Look at the price of Ford Eco-boost 2.7 liter, most are well north of $45k.

The base Dodge RAM V6 nets 25mpg highway and makes more power and torque than the engine in our Tacoma. And it's a $26k truck. Sooooooyeah.

Problem is I paid $35k OTD for a Z71 Sierra Doublecab brand new last year 4wd with all the goodies (touch screen, power seat, etc.) I paid that for my 2015 double cab tacoma when I traded, to the average consumer without a taco biased the most for your money goes to the full-size with better gas mileage and more options. But I have loved every taco Ive owned and I know it will last and that's where my money went.

I will just leave this right here...

Full sizers rarely reach their advertised ratings. That 25 mpg is 2wd form, it is 23 for 4x4 which is still less than the Colorado and probably equal or less than the new Tacoma.

Diesels tend to reach or exceed their ratings. Colorado averaged above their ratings where the others did not. Hope the Tacoma does the same.

If you don't want a full size these new breads of mid sizers are starting to come to light.

Have you owned one cause I have/did? I assure you my 4wd double cab ecotec v8 consistently got 19/25, can't speak to the ford but the new chevy gets ridiculous gas mileage.

That eco diesel is the bees knees. 29mpg observed is serious business. And the Colorado got 27mpg? If that's a "real world" number that's also very VERY impressive. I know the GMC Canyon has active grill shutters that help on the highway but I don't know if the Colorado does. The fact that they're adding a diesel to the lineup tells me that it must do even better on fuel. And that's scary to think about!

    Ridiculous good or bad?

Good, I owned one for a few months over the summer (traded previous taco for it in a irrational decision). Consistently got 19-21 in the city and 23-26 hwy from a v8 4wd.
