If you dont need boxed frame than you probably dont need frame, please go buy Ridgeline no frame there.

Yeah I heard 3rd gens aren't going to come standard with launch control or a 5th wheel adaptor... Stupid Toyota engineers. They don't even know what they are doing... They totally missed it with the 1st and 2nd gen Tacoma.

I wheeled the dog shit out of my 06 taco and my current Taco (so have many others) and haven't had issues. for what the average Joe does I'm certain a boxed frame won't be necessary. I guess they should come standard with boxed frames, gusseted spindles, and a roll cage for all your concerns right?

You dont need frame to wheel, especially in Cali.
Average Joe does not buy Truck for wheeling in shopping mall speed bumps.
Non boxed frame was put by Toyota to make truck drive more comfortable over speed bumps. (flex)
Average Joe would like to be able to load bed full of dirt for his home with out truck looking like horseshoe. Just like he was able to do it in his 1gen truck. if I ever loaded my truck the way i loaded my 1gen truck that thing would have break in half or bend out of shape.

So what you saying asking for the same capability that 1999 Tacoma had is too much ?

This is number 5. I drive about 30,000 miles/year, so I'm going off of about 170k. Not as much as some, but enough to see a trend that the fronts always wear faster.

AASA and Tire Rack agree...not to mention the dozens and dozens of independent mechanics' sites I found in my five minute search.:

You're right big rocks and some higher speed mobbing in Cali doesn't require a boxed frame... There is nothing out here that is too gnarly like Rubicon or Socal desert. And buy a full size for your dirt hauling needs maybe? I think you are totally misinterpreting what I'm saying. The Tacoma doesn't need a boxed frame.

I've loaded all three of my 2nd gens with more than what it was rated for more times than I can count (gravel mostly). Never a single problem, even with the weak leaf springs. Not sure where this obsession for a fully boxed frame is coming from.

Composite Bed - Too light truck needs more weight in the rear to improve ride. Ever notice how much better it rides with 150 lbs in the bed? Also the composite bed after a few years looks like crap.

Disk Brakes - This really needs no explanation. Why do you think ever other truck maker uses them.

Fully Boxed Frame - Stronger = less flex = better ride.

The 2nd gen owns a 1st gen in the capability department in all categories. Fuck the 3rd gen Toyota will bring the 1st gen back just for you.

Metal beds dent like crazy and look like crap in a hurry. The composite beds holds up really well for most people.

I will agree with about the back end being too light for a smooth ride, but weight saving is important.

Tell us how the Tacoma will be better with rear disc brakes.

Stronger, yes. (but it doesn't need to be)

Less flex, yes. (but it doesn't need to be any stiffer)

Better ride, NO. The ride would be even more harsh, contradicting what you said about the weight of the bed.

The truck rides like a truck and it's not a bad ride. If the shocks were valved a little differently it would def improve the ride. I don't think more weight from a metal bed is the answer to this one. and is not relevant to why a composite bed is no good in your book. If you treat a metal bed the same way you treat a composite say hello to dents and rust.

Disk brakes: So if everyone else is doing it then Toyota must? Not a good argument... the Tacoma stops very well.

Boxed frame: What are you doing with the truck that the frame needs to be stronger? It's not a HD diesel. A flexible frame offers a less stiff ride... the premise to your first argument that the Tacoma rides stiff?

Throw the same diesel motor in a Tacoma and you will never hear Hilux again. Never mind people still wont be happy with the Tacoma and find something else to bitch about.

If it doesn't have a rear cargo light, I'm not buying it.

Wait, that might actually be true.....

Still waiting for launch control and a 5th wheel adaptor... Guess I'll wait till 4th gen. Lets start dismissing and bitching about it now before it's even on paper... that seems to be the trend around here lately.

I asked you how many cars did you had and what was interval when you adjusted your front/rear brakes. Its simple question. From what it sounds you had never made adjustment.

Originally not Expo AF! Kinda Expo AF now...lame.
I owned a 2006 PreRunner and a 2011 SR5 PreRunner, and only traded to a full size truck because I needed wider wheelbase and more suspension for towing. So I joined a Chevy forum at this point too, and it's funny cause everyone there said the same thing, they wanted a 1500 w/ a Diesel.

I thought it would never happen in the states, then Dodge came out with one recently.

So keep hope alive, but don't wait for it...I think we are a ways away yet.

In other news, as much as I'd like a small Diesel for my Silverado, the 5.3 even with it's annoying Active Fuel Mgmt does just fine. I just wish I had it. In most cases, I think it's simply that...it's something we can't have and we want it. The biggest issue for my truck and the taco wasn't engine power, and fuel economy on my Silverado is much worse than both my Tacomas. It always boils down to suspension for me, and that's just me, but that's what it always ends up being for me.

I miss my Tacoma, they are awesome trucks.
