I kinda prefer carb for a 2 stroke, unless the efi system was smart enough to compensate for different oils, oil ratios, etc.

Sadly yes, or is it that they are just that simple.... wouldn mind having the throttle control of EFI though.....

What does oil ratio have to do with the computer compensating for fuel air mix? Just wondering what your thoughts are.

You would have to program the system for the oil ratio you are going to run. Just like you have to jet the bike now for different oil ratios.

If you run more oil, you will have to up the amount of fuel flowing through the carb or throttle body or you will have a lean condition.

Nothing different from how it currently is. You just would use a laptop instead of pulling the carb apart.

I was thinking like the old huskys that didn premix the oil but ran a seperate feed instead for mix oil. A setup like that would then allow the bike to adapt to conditions.

You could but it's not needed. There are already aftermarket EFI retrofit kits available for 2 strokes. They work fine with premixed fuel.

Adding oil injection systems bring it's own set of problems. You need a separate oil tank, and an oil pump. They tend to be less consistent, and more prone to failure.

Yeah I guess that was my question, how sensitive is the oil ratio with jetting? obviously running more oil causes there to be less fuel in the mix causing a lean condition when compared to the same jetting with less oil but I'm just not sure how lean...

Oil injection systems scare me, my rd350 has one that I'm stupid paranoid about, always checking the hose fittings etc

The oil displaces the fuel as you said. How fat you can go is a matter of testing, go up and couple main sizes and hammer it!

Most guys I know with RDs and RZs just premix the fuel and ditched the Oil injection system. But they are all track guys sooo..not so convenient for a daily needing to stop for gas.

Just as a point of reference between my KTM and Yamaha 250's. My KTM was setup for 50:1 and the Yamaha 32:1. The KTM was running a 172 main jet and 45 pilot. Yamaha a 180 and 50. Same needle on the middle position and both run the air screw 1 turn out. Both also have the same reed system, same pipe and silencer.

I'm also running VP C8 fuel. If I were running pump gas I would have needed to up the jet size a bit more.

    Congrats!!! That's awesome.

Also thanks for the jetting info guys, it makes sense.

I finally got around to doing the fork seals on the new yz, it was my first time messing with upside down forks, not too bad with the right tools. Pvc seal driver ftw!
