First time for everything

 

Got a 96 tacoma 4x4 manual hubs
The trans case is not kicking in the front driveshaft i still have low range but it will not kick in the front driveshaft and the light wont come on

Yes fuse is good
And i know front ends good
I guess its got a actuator in transfercase i reaaly dont know i seen a few wires at it u would think with the shifter going straight in the case it would actuate

Are there any sensors/cylinoids or anything of that sort on the transfer case (im sure there probably are because u can put the shifter in 2wd on a tacoma after being in 4wd and sometimes it wont come out)

Also any kits to do away with this shit and make it like older toyotas

 

Not sure if our front diffs are the same but my truck was doing the exact thing.

I had the transfercase and front diffs unbolted and manually moved the components inside as they were jammed up a little. it all works fine now.

The front diff was ultimately the culprit as it was all gummed up feeling and after a few side to side movements it was smooth again.

Also I changes my diff oil in the process.

I hope i dont have to go through all that lol but i appreciate it if i dont figure out i guess ill pull it apart this weekend

 

Seafoamed it And changed oil. Seems to run a little better.

 

its actually not that difficult to access the actuators, the transfer case one is on the top area by the cab and the front diff really just requires you to drop the skid plates out of the way to access.

 

i think I'm looking at getting a new steering rack.. there is a little PS fluid leaking out of where the passenger inner tie rod connects to the rack. Any advice on where to shop for a new rack? after looking around a bit it seemed like a lot of people went with rackdoctor.

 

Long time no see. If you can swing it, pretty sure oem is the way to go. There were a few guys here that had some trouble with one of the aftermarket racks :-/

 

I remember, think it was squeaky penguin but can't recall which brand. Maybe he'll chime in, can't really fish right now

 

Speaking of oil, I finally just ordered a Fumoto valve. Wish I would have thought to order it before I changed my oil last week.

Anyone done an oil filter relocation on a 3.4?

 

Ok so I was able to find an answer.. It is the aae rack that gave squeaky and two other folks here (boxrocket maybe?) trouble. Brett (squeaky penguin) has the rack doctor currently. Hopefully he can give you a report.

 

Rack Doctor rack has been trouble free since install. AAE rack had guide and inner tie rod problems from new.

Edit: according to others research, AAE and Safari are the same racks.

I know its been too long, ive had a lot going on. Finally have a little bit of $ to put on the truck. I remembered someone having a bad safari steering rack and that's why I was trying to figure out which one i should get haha. thanks for the replies guys.

How dangerous would it be if I waited say a month to get the new rack? It's probably only leaked about 1/4 cup of PS fluid out of the inner tie rod connector and I bet it's been like this for a while.

 

Pliny and boxrocket both had aftermarket racks and had problems, not sure which ones though.

 

I did the same thing, had to wait to install the fumoto.

 

Could always change your oil twice in one month
