    Have you changed the oil yet? I hate to be the resident oil filter bitch but I always end up spending more time getting that damn thing out than anything else in the process... Not to mention the fact that it spills everywhere regardless of technique...

    Yep, I know it's easy to get off if you drop the skid plate. But I don't want to drop the skid every time. Someone in here will call me lazy (and I'm not denying it) but I just want to change my oil and be done. Plus, dropping the skid can reveal other broken things that I would then have to spend time/money to fix :anonymous:

    Truth. But I don't recall skid plate off making the oil filter part of it easier maybe I'll do it next time. Need to knock some rust off of it and repaint anyways.

    You guys drop the skid to change the oil filter?? I just turn the wheel to the left and pop off the rubber fender liner. The filter looks you right in the face.....takes me no time at all for oil changes

    Nope, I've never removed the skid plate before.

    My issue is getting the filter wrench on it, then having to go back and forth between the engine bay and wheel well to get it loosened. Then of course all the oil in the filter pours out everywhere...

    Dropping the skid is the only way I can get the filter wrench on it :notsure:

    which is why it is handy to have the skid off.

    I drop mine for doing the oil change so it is off already.

    I must have strong hands or something because I can always just grip it and loosen it by hand. I've even over tightened them by hand before.. The part I always have a hard time with is trying not to spill any oil, even with a plastic bag around it I always manage to get oil everywhere lmao..

    So you use the filter wrench from under the motor? Haven't tried that because I figured I'd spill oil all over me haha

    I don't have any skids now, so the removal part is easy ;)
    I can't ever get mine to budge. Hand tighten it every time too.

    I always hand tighten and hand loosen from the side. Works every time for me

    Negative this is a custom crossmember and some tabs from trail gear.


    You can through the fender liner but it is still a pain. One hand from under and one hand over.

    I hand tighten too and can't ever get the thing off. And I play guitar pretty well and rock heavy strings so pretty sure it isn't a strength or dexterity thing.
