Anyone know how to...

Clean the throttle body on an '05 4.0L V6 Tacoma? I searched the forums for a write-up, but came up with nothing for the 4.0L V6.

If there is one out there could someone point me in the right direction?

I actually went to NAPA today and the guy that was helping me with the finding the NGK plugs for my truck suggested that I look into cleaning the throttle body. He asked if my truck was idling ruff and I said yes so he suggested Valvoline SYN power throttle body cleaner...it was $3.49 for a 15.6oz can. He told be to just spray it in the Body and wipe it out with a rag, then wait a couple of hours to ensure everything was dry. Does this sound right to anyone else?

the best throttle body cleaner i have ever used......seafoam deep creep...hands down. that stuff works and cleans awesomely.

 

So I cleaned the throttle body out last night and I have to say it was WAY easy, thank you Chris for the instructions.

Now my only question is, how long will it take for my computer to re-map its self?

My idle rpms are all over the place and not where they used to be. Range from 1000 to 2000 RPM.

 

Yes everything was dry when I connected it up...

I cleaned it out then let it sit for about an hour or more and hooked it all up again like it was supposed to be.

What gasket? I never saw or had a gasket and the instructions didn't say anything about it either...

I just went back and read the instructions and it said TB with gasket, but I never say one nor did one come off.

Just got off the phone with Camelback Toyota, and they have the gasket in stock. I'm going to get it after work and then replace the gasket if it's there or put it back on. lol thanks Chris, is this the only thing it could be?

 

did you remove the tb from the intake.....or did you clean it while it was still on the truck?? if you cleaned it while still on...no gasket needed, and it will reset itself shortly.

 

Nope I unbolted it from the mani and cleaned it. I just didn't take the hoses off to do it, i just laid down some rags and sprayed the cleaner on a clean rag to wipe everything out. Then I let it air dry for at least an hour or more, I just don't remember seeing a gasket in the first place.

 

Well, I got the gasket and took everything apart. Gasket was still in there, so for good measure I replaced it anyways and seems to be doing better. Not normal, but may be the new normal. No high idle anymore and seems to be a little more smooth.

Only took me about 10 minuets to get to the TB, and 8 bolts...I love how easy this truck is to work on. Nothing like my '94 V6 pick up...
