I work for the coggin group so I had our body shop at Coggin deland ford paint them. They charged me $170. Only reason I did it, seemed too good to pass up.

 

damn Jason, how'd you break your fairlead? seen a lot of broken parts before, including bend fairleads, but never one that broken like that

When I was winching the other day to bend my bumper bars, the cable got in between the roller and the housing and eventually snapped it (the housing, not the cable). I'm not impressed with that fairlead honestly. I will put it back on once it is replaced though. But i already started looking to upgrade the winch to a synthetic.

Which brings me to another question.

I can get a warn v10000-s for $696

Or a smittybilt X20 10000-s competition or whatever it's called for $550. Which would be the better choice?

 

I'm impressed with the Warns after seeing one in action and comparing it to my Smitty.

 

well... we've seen smittybilt quality, haha


but despite the very mixed reviews i've heard about smittybilt, i'd still consider it, where are you seeing warn for 650, is it vr10000s, those look to be about 850 from what i could find, warn still seems to be best name in winches imo


you could just get a synthetic line for yours for about $200?

Mine is not synthetic rope compatible. And I found the warn for $696, not $650. I miss spoke at first but edited it. I can't give away my source. But will be putting my super winch up for like $250 or so if anyone is interested. When the time comes.

 

what makes a winch compatible? I thought it was just replacing the fairlead and the rope ought to do it, but I guess not?

 

I will try to find the video. I wondered the same until I saw a video of putting synthetic rope on a steel drum. The rope tightens so much under load that it will completely crumple the drum. I think that's the best way to word it, but like I said, I'm gonna keep trying to find the video I saw.
