Long story short, I was at the dealer Saturday to test drive a 2015 O/R. They offered 9300 for my 2007, but the KBB form they filled out was missing a couple things that would drive up the price into the high 10s. Today they called and offered 11500. I said it was decent but not enough to make me move faster. I had originally told them I wasn't ready to buy yet. They asked what would make me move now, I said 13k and I'd give it strong consideration. They called back with 12650.

Here's my question. They said they would do that price if I buy before COB Friday, because they have a sales quota to make by then to order new Tacomas from Toyota or something like that. Does that sound legit or is that probably BS?

    Thanks

you are the one who has to be satisfied with the deal. Easiest way is just tell them how much difference you will pay.

I think I'm alright with the deal. My only question is what's the likelihood of this being legitimately a limited time offer for this week only, or is it likely they would do the same thing a month from now.

stick to your price and let them know that you won't be back until you get $13k for your truck. You'll get that offer, but you'll just have to hassle back and forth a couple more times.

OP, I did this dance last week, Stick to your guns. Dealer only wanted to give me 17 for my 08 and I fought and got 21. Out the door I paid 26,900 for my 2015 O/R that had a 34k MSRP. Shit, I even got the 7 year 100k warranty for 800 and 1.9% through TFS. NEVER back down, don't let them win.

Well done this is exactly how you do it.

Do your research. tell them what you want. Leave. If they let you.

Its getting close to end of month, I'm sure that has something to do with it, sounds like a killer deal on your trade. If your happy with the deal then jump. Either way they are making something, just the way it works, as long as your happy and they are happy then go for it.

Tell them to lower the sale price of the truck window sticker as well on top of what they are offering you for your truck. They can offer you only so much for the truck, but then they can also reduce the actual sale price.
Depending on you 2007 condition and mileage they might bundle your truck with other trade ins and ship to the auction or try to resell your truck on the lot. To my point strip the truck of all the cup holders, mats, tie downs.... Once they give you the offer its locked in. They don't realy care for the little things.

If you said 13k you're pretty close to the money with them. Keep them hanging a little longer to see if you can squeeze out a few more dollars. Damn dealers around military posts will try to earn your business. Only because most people won't go to them because of there price gouging.

Thanks guys. I think I would generally be satisfied with that deal. They'd be paying about what KBB says my truck is worth in excellent condition, and it's not in excellent condition. I would say very good except that it has a long key mark down the side.

I would probably take this deal, the only hangup I have is that I didn't really want to buy until the worst of winter is over, but I guess it's not a huge deal. So I'm mulling it over.

Then you should take it! They are only offering $350 less than what you want.

Prices usually go up when the weather gets better. Spring is also tax season and people have those return checks burning holes in their pocket. Winter is generally a good time to buy.

    I love my 2015.

Since you are a qualified, eager buyer and not just a tire kicker, stick to your price and wait it out until the weekend. I am willing to bet you'll get want.

Don't call them, let them call you. Next time they call, tell them a competing dealer is willing to give you $13k and match them on the price of their '15 and you are going there Saturday.

They made more than one '15 and you'll always be able to find one and get a similar deal. If you want to wait, wait. Telling you the price is only good until XXX is a gimmick. You have basically an entire year at this point before your used truck is "one model year older" too.

    ^^^ this^^^

Its what I did after spending 3 weeks talking to every Toyota dealer in Phoenix. In the end two of them were working hard and calling daily to get me in. I walked from the 1st dealer and said that they need to figure out if they want my business while I go to another dealer that's ready to talk. By the time the 1st dealer was ready to give me what I want the 2nd dealer was accepting my offer and didn't want me to leave.

Its all a game to them, go with a high volume dealer and they can handle a skinny deal. People don't understand that the real money is on the back end. They sell one, Toyota sends another and it puts them one closer to a fat bonus from Toyota.
Bottom line like everyone else has said, be patient and don't be afraid to walk. You are a buyer and they should bend over backwards to get your business.

I guess the other question would be how long can I wait before I start having a hard time finding what I want in a 2015? How much longer will they continue to produce 2015s?

That said, what I want is really pretty basic. TRD O/R 4x4, V6, auto, access cab, tow package, black.

Is the fact that I'm interested in one on the lot likely to affect what kind of deal they're willing to make? If they had to bring in what I want do you think they wouldn't be willing to go as high on the trade?

Like I said, I just kind of hate to get a brand new truck out on the road while we still have salt trucks and occasionally slick roads. I've never had a major problem in the past, but you know how it goes. Then again I think I probably went through this very dilemma 8 years ago when I bought my '07 and ended up buying in February. I was in Maryland at the time though.

You will usually get a better deal on what they have on the lot. Less hassle for them. And less chance of you backing out while waiting for the new one to arrive. And for them, money now is better than money later (also why they gave you a "limited time offer").

Buying a vehicle doesn't have to be a pain in the @$$, but some dealers just insist on making it so. Don't be afraid to shop around.

you are involved in AAA horse trading now op, good luck!

when I went in, what I wanted wasant on the lot and there was only 1 in the whole region and it limited the amount I could haggle them down.
