Alright thanks guys. I'll have to look them up, my st3s had said somewhere that they were a 50k miles life tire.

And I'd be getting the lightest option of tire available probably, in 285/75/16

Check with member UrPebkac, he has around 50k or more on his tires... Can't remember exactly but I think they are coming to the end of their life right around there.
If I get 50k out of mine I'll be happy, I don't want to run them until their bald either.

59,800 miles on the first set I had on my 03 Tundra. That's a mix odd daily driving, beaches, gravel roads, and muddy two track roads. No rock crawling though.

Were they completely shot? I don't like to run them until bald.

    Just curious

Are there any benefits to running 255/80/17 vs 285/70/17 when the truck is going to see 90% pavement? Would only see light mud and sand the other 10%.

Like most of us, my taco wears many hats. Its my DD, quite a bit of offroading (i'm 1-2 hours from many epic trails) and I tow often. By no means am I suggesting that I'm putting it to work like a heavy diesel, but it probably see's pretty close to severe duty for a truck it's size. I'll probably have these tires by the end of the month. I appreciate the feedback.

MPG's and trimming are the only difference probably.

Most likely have to trim for 285's and they are bigger and heavier so less MPG, still only probably talking 1mpg if that between the two.

Narrower tires are better in snow unless it is so deep you need floatation

1 MPG isn't something I'd hassle over. I've scoured the thread and now I'm just trying to decide on a size. Snow in south Texas is very rare, but it has happened twice, so at least I'll know the tire the handle it if need be.

They had 6/32" of tread left. I believe legal depth is 3/32" but it was last October and I wanted fresh tread for winter.

Remind me again how tall the tires are on the truck with the truck on the ground

Since I don't go off road much, would you guys recommend getting a fifth for the spare or just getting a regular tire in the chosen size of the others?

    I don't have a spare
But that's going to change soon.
Get the spare and rotate it with the rest of them.
Or just get the same size in a junk tire

This is what I was thinking. I even considered keeping my factory spare (265/70/16) depending on what tire I upgrade to (275vs 285/70/17).

I found a brand new Cooper S/T in 265/75/16 for 75 bucks and bought a 16x8 Steel wheel from Wheelers. So 140 dollars for a beefy spare of the same size. I'm satisfied. Gonna sell my stock spare on CL. lol
