I bought the younger brother Adventure All Terrains and love them so far.

Vastly superior to the BFG ATs in the snow. Do well on moderate trails and are insanely quiet and smooth on dry pavement.

comparing new decking options, anyone like the trex style product or is it still better to go with traditional pressure treated lumber and stain your color choice?

    AND GO!!

Colorado has one of the harshest climates for a deck or any exposed wood, especially if you're west of golden. between the sun exposure dry winds and temperature changes it wreaks havoc on the wood so if it's in your budget I'd go for the trex. If you go with the stain , behr or sikkens are the way to go, but you'll only get about three or four years before you have to sand in restain even if it says 10 years on the can. Those rules don't apply Colorado!

If you're thinking trex look at concrete. You can do some cool things for about the same price with concrete. You could also do the wood and hit it with this stuff called restore deck treatment. My parents just did it to their deck and it turned out nice.

The restore is nice stuff to just make sure you do the prep work and apply it like it says on the can.

Ill be just re surfacing the decking, using the joists that are in place. ive heard mixed reviews on the restore deck treatments in particular deck N dock, people are saying its hell once it starts peeling up.

im guessing by his photo that the michelin man isnt a fan of the synthetic wood options :D

Mistake most people make is not doing the proper prep work, like many other projects around the house. That and they also try to spread it over way too large of an area. You also have to use the applicator that they sell for it or it just won't go down right, and will eventually peel.

My parents has been down for a year or so maybe a little longer. Their deck is west facing, and elevated. I'll ask them if they have any issues with it pealing or flaking.

Judging by the photo Eric posted I'd say someone used too thin a material on the top or it's an earlier generation product that is more susceptible to warping and brittleness.

I'd take bigfella's advise. I happen to know he is becoming an expert in the field.:)

Soooo my case manager called me from Toyota HQ today in reference to my truck with engine problems currently at Mountain States Toyota. She told me she was sorry for the bother, but needed to advise me that the dealership was unable to duplicate my complaints that my truck was not functioning properly. I asked her if she actually called anyone or was reading from a book on what to say to avoid warranty repairs because this was exact wording she used when she told me that my local dealership here couldn't find anything wrong with my truck. She said there is nothing they could do further to assist and I basically could come get my truck. Good thing I had emails from the dealership in Denver working on my truck that actually said there was something wrong, and that they had engine codes showing problems but have yet to locate the problem. Once I told her that she told me she would have to call me back in a while. 10 minutes later she called back and said sorry she had misspoken and would call me back later this week or next week with any other findings. SMH so frustrating.

Used Trex seven years ago. I have never had to stain it. Ever. So worth the extra price. It's also really easy to clear snow off and doesn't get so hot in the Summer that you can't walk on it barefoot. Don't get me wrong, it can get hot but, not blistering hot. Feels really good on bare feet and no worries about splinters either. Did I mention that you NEVER have to stain it?

As to the picture above. Those look like 16" on center joists and should be 12" per the manufactures instructions. It's thick, heavy and pretty flexible hence the need for 12" spacing on the joists.

And just to reiterate, the better the prep the better the finished product.

    And no staining. Ever.:D

EDIT: that shit in the picture is hollow. WTF? Is that fencing used for decking?
