u sure u don't need it? it was meant for you to keep, but if you're just gonna get rid of it, I can always keep it around in case I decide to trade in, up to you, no biggie! but i prob won't make it, so maybe u can pass it to sprucetaco or blackhorse, and I can grab it from them later

 

Thats a nice little winch there nammer. J, not so sure you should fix your roller lead if your going synthetic. Although you can use them the pinch points on a roller lead can tear up a synthetic line. Just saying cause I would love to go synthetic line someday and I have heard that somewhere..

 

I am replacing it under warranty. When/if I go synthetic, it will mean a whole new winch, not just the line. And the winch would then come with a different fairlead.

 

You also run into the possibility of jacking up your new line since the drum can get burrs in it from running a steel cable.

 

I have that same Smitty but haven't had to put it to hard use yet to tell of quality. I do know I took it apart and sealed the solenoid and regreased the whole thing right out of the box (I would prob do this to any winch regardless of brand just for my piece of mind) Only time will tell how good quality it is but as of now I have no regreats.

Why would you get a new winch instead of swapping the lines?

 

You can trash your new line after the drum has already had steel cable on it due to burrs.

 

But you could smooth everything out without any problems... I guess I'm just cheap

 

Agreed, but also like Jason said, the drum will crush when that synthetic line tightens down on the first good pull.

My winch specifies that synthetic line is not recommended. Told Nam that I watched a video of one someone put synthetic line one and watched the drum crumple.

 

I'll admit it, I'm a WARN fanboy but thats cause I've seen them in action. Have you looked into the Warn with the synthetic line?
