afe pro dry s pictures

anyone got a pic of the afe pro dry s filter for the 3.4 v6 airbox? i got mine in today...and it seems kinda weird....so i wanna do a comparo. appreciate it.

 

here is one side....the side that i believe goes toward the motor....



and the other side....which i believe goes toward front of airbox.....



it seems weird to me because normally....i'd think that the mesh would go toward the motor,and the open pleats come toward where the air comes in at......plus, this is basically the way it has to go,because the bigger part of the filter surround goes at the back of the air box towards the motor.

 

i could take a pic of mine for ya tomorrow, but its for the 2.7!

im gonna guess for now that the mesh is for catching larger objects...still dont make sense to me tho.

buy when i installed it it was a tight fit (tighter than stock) but it fit

 

yup that's the way mine is. mine is a pretty snug fit into the clips at the bottom of the air box too, have to give it a good push.

 

yeah......it definitely fits snug, and seals up either way i put it in,so im guessing that it really doesnt matter................so i installed it backwards from how the stock filter went it....mesh side towards the motor....open pleats toward the incoming air.....we'll see how that works. it should filter fine either way....just the side the open pleats are at.....the mesh on the filter media is smaller than on the other side that has the extra mesh netting...if that makes any sense.

 

which way did you put yours in??

 

It's a drop in filter so whichever side the lip is on needs to be up, with the majority of the filter down inside the airbox. I'll guarantee the filter was designed like that for a reason and that there was no manufacturer defect or anything. Just drop it in like the stock one.

 

thing is......in the 3.4 airbox...the filter doesnt lay flat....it stands straight up.

 

i have this side facing the front of the truck, away from the engine. seemed to me that it sealed better this way?

 

mine sealed good both ways, but i may go ahead and turn it around....just seems that the open pleats should face forward, like most other filters i have seen/used.

 

i think im on to something here.....since it seals on both sides, when one side get dirty just turn it around and you have a clean filter. walla!

 

.....that reminds me of the old "turning the underwear inside out trick.......

 

I had the same question. But when I compared it to the stock one, it seemed to fit better with the mesh towards the front.
