I love this FJ. Rear bumper is $600 shipped with powder coating! The 4Runner is like $1,000 plus for bare steel!

No need for a swingout or anything because the rear door holds a 33 easily

If my girl did that to her car, last thing I'm going to do is offer her my truck.

Shrug. Then I guess neither one of you really care that much about your girlfriends. I've got insurance for the truck; if she wrecks it I can always get another one. My rates might go up a bit, but if she walks away from an accident unhurt then that's more than worth it to me.
The truck's just 'stuff'. If it keeps her safe then it's done its job.

I drove crappy vehicles for years because we put $$ into a good vehicle for her. The '10 is the newest truck I've ever bought for myself, because I've always cared more about making sure she was in a safe, reliable vehicle. So since my truck has a higher crash test rating than her car does, I always insist that she take it when the roads are bad. The fact that it's a 4x4 is just a nice bonus.
Sloth seems to have the same plan; there's a reason he's driving a 13-year old truck and his wife has a brandy-new 4-Runner.

Edit- Plus, I get to drive my truck the rest of the time, which is also nice :D

Chris, either one would work but go with calcium chloride. It is effective at lower temps than magnesium chloride. I know calcium chloride is safe for roofs, not 100% sure about magnesium chloride but people seem to be using it without any damage. Whatever you do, just don't use sodium chloride, that will cause the issues.

Exactly Noel. It's much rather have her in a big 4x4 body on frame tank in the winter than a car. Especially with or daughter. If she gets in an accident that's what insurance is for. I'd rather sure have the nicer vehicle being the primary transporter for our daughter to daycare

    Well said.

Ari has a Mazda 3 hatch back but has said her next vehicle will be a Tacoma (which is awesome). If I had kids, they'd be hauled around in a body-on-frame 4x4 with incredible crash test ratings, because Toyota trucks are really the only vehicles I trust with my life or my hypothetical/future kid's lives.

    Sorry to rant.

We're actually looking at getting Cassie either a Subaru Crosstrek or possibly the new Honda HR-V. The Fit is good for her because she puts on a lot of miles, but I'd really like her in something a little bigger than the Blue Gumdrop, and preferably something with AWD.

After having 4x4 I don't think my wife would ever go back to something without it/awd

Good deal..I'll check the stuff I have at home. At this rate I'm not gonna have a roof left if it keeps leaking anyways, FML

My girl is a good driver. Last time she was in an accident, it wasn't her fault. A minivan ran a stop sign and hit the front of her F-450. Pushed the front axle over several inches. She was alright, just a little shaken up. The minivan was totaled.

I had tried to talk her into buying something like a 4Runner, but she bought a Pontiac G6 instead.

Can't beat Subaru's AWD system. They are awesome in the snow.
Careful using salt if it's leaking inside. You absolutely do not want salt water getting in your walls and onto pipes or electrical.
