That's what I want to know! I would think they would if they were serious about brining their market share up from 7% to 10% and wanted to win new customers. Use this truck as a loss leader to bring people over from the other brands.

Another thing I want to know. If I did the math right, getting 25mpg in a diesel, with the current higher cost of diesel, would actually make this cheaper to drive than my Taco with nearly twice the HP, torque, and payload/tow capacity. :D

I do too. Seriously considered one and there are some things I like about it better than the Tacoma. There were some where the Tacoma definitely won, though, and even with the price premium it won out for me.

I think anything with that much chrome and a diesel in it is going to drag over some guys. Some people think black smoke and chrome make a truck. Pricing it cheap will just justify the purchase for some. It'll be interesting to see how Nissan handles this. If they jack the price or drop the rebates they will likely lose a lot of Titan drivers since they had one of the lowest driver satisfaction numbers out there.

25 mpg on a full sized truck that puts out 550 ft*lbs of torque from a Cummins is getting more than a little optimistic IMHO. I think the Diesel mpg advantage will put it on par with most gas trucks at best. Rarely does diesel pay to run. I live in an area where diesel are very common. It's all oil, natural gas, or agriculture here. Even the die hard diesel guys will tell everyone there Cummins, Powerstroke, or Duramax isn't getting them any farther ahead over a gas job. They buy Diesel for the power and that "roll coal" feeling.

That being said Cummins makes a great motor, so they should last well in theory. As long as the new Titan is built better than the last. Which is something that's hard to count on.

Frontier has some cool options. Like a factory bed tent!

I seriously considered it. In the end, the Tacoma is more reliable, has better resale and has a bigger aftermarket.

I didn't care about the difference in MPG

The price was very close for me for the Taco and the Frontier.

The bed tiedowns were definitely better in the Nissan.

The Nissan was less bubbly feeling, I think I would like it offroad

The ride was not as good as Taco IMO

The throttle response felt weird in the Nissan.

The frontier interior was ugly, nice features but the seats blow.

You're probably onto something there, especially considering this article I found today.
    http://www.torquenews.com/1080/why-2016-nissan-titan-doesnt-have-floor-shifter

Well, I like to be optimistic! :D If that were the case it would be great. I think around the 22mpg mark you mentioned earlier was break even, assuming around $2.30 for gas and $3.20 for diesel when I did the math. It got better as the gas prices got closer to diesel. Gas dropped around here while diesel didn't, so if they were both closer the diesel would be cheaper. I was playing around with the numbers for S&G's, and of course not factoring in more expensive oil changes or anything like that. Just trying to get an idea of basic daily cost of running differences.

Hard to count on, except they have addressed things according to the propaganda!

Cummins.. Chances are good its good.

Aisian.. Better on average than some others. But could be either way (example jeep ax15 and toy r150) one scpec'd for jeep and notoriously less than perfect. One spec'd for yota and pretty solid.

Axel, from their commercial vehicle lines. Just like Toyota did with their 10.5 in the Tundy (from Hino) its likely already proven in a heavy duty use vs straight out of the frontier.

Frame. That's a good looking frame!

Interior, that looks great to me.

Badges. WTF!!! why is there 134 different TITAN badges?

I had a rental 2014 SV crew cab 4x4 V6 for a week thought this:

    • Frontier's seating position is better, but the comfort of the seat itself is worse. If I drove it for more than an hour, my back would ache something awful. Never experienced that before in any vehicle, and I'm 23--not an old man.
    • Some of it seemed "cheap"--dash felt plasticy, gauges didn't light at all without headlights on.
    • Even though it made more power, the throttle map made it feel weak off the line. Also, it has 3.36 gears and it was a bit of a dog on hills on the highway--needed to downshift often.
    • Bed light is great! Why doesn't the Tacoma have one?
    • Locking tailgate is also great. Cheap to add one to a Tacoma, but should be standard.
    • Like the shift pattern on the Tacoma better. Never liked straight back gearshifts like the Frontier has.
    • Not as much aftermarket support, but for what I've done it probably wouldn't have been a problem.

My wife has an 08 Pathfinder. From what I've read it's basically an SUV version of the Frontier or Titan (apparently lots of parts are interchangeable too, IE Titan control arms would give the PF "long travel" suspension).

I've noticed a few differences myself:
    • 4.0 V6 rated for 30HP more than my 4.0 V6
    • faster acceleration
    • "Vehicle Dynamic Control" which appears to act like an LSD with the ability to throttle back the engine does a damn good job of keeping the thing straight in 2WD in the snow while I have to engage 4WD in the same conditions. It's not perfect, but it's impressed me a few times. Nissan also included a button to turn it off, so we still have the choice.
    • Steering feels a bit stiffer, that took some getting used to
    • Wife makes similar complaints about the ABS not letting her stop on snow, but I haven't experienced it yet myself. We can modify a relay to turn that off for her if we really want to.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
I think that article is full of crap :D or Nissan guys pulled a fast one.
More likely story is that because this is Cummins engine that supposed to end up in Dodge its mated to Dodge Aisin transmission hence it has linkage for steering column shifter.

If this engine is like other Dodge engines and it can run on veggie oil than screw it, its going to cost you 100 gallon tank from tractor supplies, couple fittings from home depot , pre-heater and embarrassment of going to McDonald and asking for used French fry oil :D

The oil around here gets collected by a company that pays for it under contract. Your best bet, if your area is anything like mine, is to find an independent restaurant that'll sell you their used oil. It'll still be cheaper than diesel, but again I'd be somewhat paranoid personally about running used french fry oil in my +40K truck. It'd be a different story with an old Mercedes.

I like the looks of the new Taco, but I absolutely hate the location of the parking brake. Why would you put it in the middle where it will collect dust and crap.

It's easier to use the hand brake for hill control over trying to use the current setup on the manual transmission trucks.

    Do people actually do that?

I guess I always that it was a joke :confused:

SOOO that shit about Subaru hill start assist and using the parking brake is FOR REAL!?! that sucks!

I like the classic under the dash one myself.

I guess now the 2wd guys will have an easier setup to mod for drifting!

Toyota has already stated the 2016 Tacoma has been designed for the loyal "do it all with one truck" Tacoma crowd. So they have several offroad options and tweaks that they are offering versus the competition to try and lure the odd guy back into another new Tacoma.

Well that is me. So lets make a wish list
    :D
    d4d diesel over seas spec
    solid axel
front and rear axel. Just give me FJZ80 front and rear
    manual trans.
7323 lbs towing (don't really care what the "rating" is)
6 ft bed and access cab

d4d diesel over seas spec The Tacoma is not getting it and Toyota makes a good argument for why. Some argue but Toyota's logic will either pass or fail when the Duramax Colorado sales numbers are seen after several years
solid axel Never, they want to sell this to Soccer Moms too
front and rear axel. Just give me FJZ80 front and rear Same as above
manual trans. Confirmed by Toyota, a new manual 6 speed for the V6
7323 lbs towing (don't really care what the "rating" is) They will never build a 1/4 ton that challanges the Tundra for weight ratings. To do that the Tacoma would have to get wider, heavier, and heavy a bigger engine which isn't going to happen either since, again, they'd have two half tons in there lineup.
6 ft bed and access cab The Tacoma at the Detroit autoshow had these options
