    Size of there Fan base. One team in a metro area that has over 5 million people that are tuned to the local NHL team. I spent a few years there as a kid. It's hard to get by in the school yard in Southern Ontario if you are not a Leafs fan. Even Senators home games are dominated by Leafs fans when Toronto comes to town. Throw in the fact that a lot of area's in Western Canada were populated by transplants from out east and it's no wonder there are so many Leafs and Habs fans.

    Are the Riders actually the most football popular team in Canada, or do we all just notice their fans more because they're loud, obnoxious, drunk, and covered in watermelon juice all the time ;).

    Don Taylor is a West Coast icon as far as I am concerned. He always managed to weave his knowledge of, and his appreciation for Canucks history into his monologues. He delivered with a sense of humour to boot! I watched him all of the time when I lived out there in the 90's. It is sad to hear is on the outs.

    decades of favourable schedules and preferential treatment from CBC sure didn't hurt. without looking at the schedule I can tell you that the leafs play on Saturday at 7pm eastern. up until this season leafs games were the only option for that time slot, Flames could be playing the Habs at the same time but CBC would show leafs vs panthers nationwide becuz leafs.

    I don't watch football.
