I just had the dealer install a supercharger in my 2011 Double Cab. The dealer who installed it told me I should drive lightly for a few days. Is there a breakin period for a new supercharger like there is for a new vehicle (don't drive over 55 for the first 1000 miles, vary the speed, no abrupt starts or stops, etc)?

Also, are there anything I will hear or smell that might seem to indicate impending doom but is actually normal? I think I've read something here about an unusual smell that goes away after a few hundred miles that is normal.

This is the first time I've put a supercharger on any vehicle I've driven. I think I know what I should expect but since I'm new to the game, I really don't.

Ummm...no. There's no break in period. If there was, it would be clearly noted in the instructions. And it's not.
The only reason to drive light footed is if you don't have premium in the gas tank.

FYI there isnt even a break in period for new vehicles really.... all the motors are broken in at the factory.

Actually there is...but as you stated, it's not for the engine. It's for the diff(s).

I don't know yet. The install guy told me to light foot it for a few days. I'm going over the Grapevine from LA to Sacramento tonight and then up to Lake Tahoe over the weekend. That will be the test for me.

I have a 2012 Access Cab with the S/C and CAT back system. I have about 500 miles on the S/C and its great. The increased HP and torque makes more of a difference than I expected. While cruising noise is negligible but if you get on it you can hear it. One note is to keep an eye on the coolant reservoir level initially. I have had no problems and am very happy with the install. Worth the cost because you feel like you have a new truck, you won't believe the difference the additional HP and torque make, its amazing.

I've been driving around for about 500 supercharged miles since the install and I really like the performance gains: HP and Torque. But nothing means more than the fun factor!

It really makes the Tacoma an entirely "different" truck once you get a supercharger.

We should form an internet club for the S/C guys.

I like it. It's good. I don't notice much of a difference from a standing stop but my passing power is greatly improved. The main reason I wanted it because I felt like the engine was trying a little too hard to get up some of the hills I need to go over on a regular basis, especially when I have passengers. I drove over those hills day before yesterday and the truck didn't have a bit of trouble.

I don't really know how much of a performance boost you'll get if you want to go faster. That's not my driving style. I expect I'll be one of those people who gets better gas mileage with the supercharger. But I like knowing that I can pass the annoying motorhome in front of me when I need to.

If I had a super charger, I would abuse the crap out of it.
