Detailed the Taco this Weekend

I purchase the Tacoma on August 5 and promptly went on vacation August 6th. We did not return until August 18. The Toyota color is Black Sand Pearl, a very striking black.

Projects and rain stopped me from doing a full detail until this weekend.

Since the car is new and there were no scratches I decided to just jewel the paint, apply a sealant and apply wax. A pretty straight forward detail. Below is the process used.

Wash with Zaino car wash Z7
Claybar with Maguire’s over the counter kit
Polish with a Porter Cable, PC, set on 6 and using Menzerna POR85RD polish on a blue, no cutting value, pad.
Isopropyl, IPA, Wipe down
2 coats of Zaino Z2 Pro sealant, Z2P, about 2 hours apart.
2 coats of Fuzion, high end boutique wax, 13 hours apart.

Total time spent was around 13 hours.

This first pic is my attempt to show the metal flakes in the paint. IMO Toyota has really takes a stock metal flake paint to a new level. When you look at the flakes there appears to be 3 to 4 different colors but I believe that is just the way the light refracts off of the paint and back to your eye.

Overall I am very happy with the outcome and finished look. Fuzion is truly a magnificent wax. When you apply the second coat you can really see the paint pop. The depth increasers tremendously.

13 hours?!?!

I washed mine last weekend and just from driving in the city and from sitting in the driveway it's dirty again. I won't spend that kinda time on my truck until I move back to eastern Canada (SK has no damn trees!).

What can I say. I am into detailing. A normal 3 polish step detail for me takes close to 24 hours. This was a simple detail. When the swirl marks start that is when I need a more aggressive polish and pad combo with a rotary polisher. The PC is a random orbital buffer. When I jewel the finish I only use a PC set on high. Normally jewelling is the last polish step. Think of it as a jeweler polishing a diamond to bring out the depth and clarity. It does the same thing to a paint finish.

Preparing to polish also takes time.

I too am "into" detailing. Not professionally, just a driveway enthusiast. I love getting out there and spending all day making my baby shine.
