Wish I could even get to my roof, it's too damn high in the front, let alone the back. I'd have to get a 30'ladder at least to get to my roof from the front. No thanks. I don't have any ice dams fortunately, just a decent amount of snow

Just as well. If you could get to your roof you'd have to worry about slipping and falling off of it.

Well I do have a bunch of fall protection left over from a field job I worked a few years ago, problem is finding something to secure it to. I suppose I could attach to a tree on the back side of the house when working the front roof, but my leash is only 75' long, so not sure how much that would get me. But ya, that would be my concern

    Nice!

One day when I have my own place and more money I would like to buy some old car/truck (preferably Mopar).

I think I've been watching too much discovery channel shows lately. I was considering tieing off to a ladder and locking it down into the snow drift on the other side of the roof to use as a snow anchor. I quickly reconsidered.

 probably a good idea. If I didn't have fence I could back my truck right up to my house and at least get a little with a snow rake standing in the bed, or attach the fall protection to my hitch shackle

I hear you on the fall protection. My southern roof face is only 1.5 stories up, so I'm not worried about a fall from that height (right now the snow's only about 6 feet below the eave, haha!). But the Northern roof face is a true two stories, so when I'm working on that side I run a rope across the roof and tether it to the front porch, and tie off the other end to my belt. Then I snug up or loosen the rope as I work my way across the roof face, but I only leave myself enough slack to get to within about 2 feet of the eaves. That way I'm close enough to shovel off over the edge, but can't actually get close enough to fall off if I slip.

Thanks. I miss that old car, and sometimes I wish I hadn't sold it, but it made up a big chunk of our down payment on our first house, so it was worth it.

That is a really good idea! Too bad the only areas close enough to tie off to are buried under 6 feet of snow and ice I've been removing from my deck.

My front is a true 2 stories, the back is more like 3.5 though with the slope of the land. I usually don't even do my own gutters, I just pony up the $120 once a year and have someone do it. I also don't own a ladder tall enough to even get to the roof in the front, so it's all kind of a moot point anyways

Mine is a raised ranch and my back deck gets my close enough to use a small extention ladder to get on roof. I use my new redneck rake for most of house but I have to get up there for the driveway side of the addition

Younger version of myself. I didn't get to be ridiculously good looking until I hit my late 20's.

I think I need to make one of those BTW....no one around here has a roof rake anymore.

I have the deck off the back where I can reach what I need too but the front is south facing so it mostly melts/slides off...

Nice. Looks like it's got a taller reach on the sides, too?
