    This is simple math..

4' antena..not going to bend and reach the roof on a truck with a 6' or 5' bed..

Is there any particular reason mounting my antenna in the bed rail is a bad idea? It's thin, I know it won't have much room to move around if it hits trees or anything, it's a 3 footer. I want it here so I can lay it down with the 90* elbow when I'm not using it

may not get good SWR numbers. The rooftop or the back bed corner are better places but it may still work. I haven't tuned one up in that location so don't know for sure. I know the parallel surface of the cab back wall theoretically will cause problems.

Hey all you manual hub people. What is the purpose of the bolt in the end of the axle? I bought my truck brand new and neither axle had this bolt in it. I see it in the factory service manual. I wonder if this worsened the destruction of my hub. 7e7a54b83afab04a5a703d073436686e_71e2b2540ff50cb26c87c6883d2c77ab81e27508.jpg

HID's, LED Dash swap, LED reverse lights, 15"x10" 5 slot mags, sliding rear window, 20gal aux. DS fuel tank,

Usually, the bolt hole in the end of the axle shaft is used to pull the axle all the way out to make it much easier to install a c-ring to keep the gears connected and in place in auto hubs or probably as the mounting point on manual hubs.

Although, it could have a completely different purpose from factory.

I have the 18 and like it. It was a little quiet when first installed but it got just a little louder after a few thousand kms. Now it's just right and I think the 14 would be too loud especially on the highway.

Ah. That presents a whole other problem..

Is the mount on the side so it sticks out wider then the bed? Otherwise the antena will just hit the back of the topper..

I just did a manual hub swap and didn't see a bolt on either CV (OEM and aftermarket). You're talking about the end of the CV right?

Yep, its on the end of the axle. I ordered some new gaskets for my hubs, so I figured I would order the bolts from the dealer. I found an old thread that said they are used as a backup to the snap ring to hold the axle in the hub. Just weird they are show in the fsm, but were never installed in my truck.
