looking at getting another taco, and wanted opinions on whether to go with the TRD Pro for 2015 or wait for 2016.

Pro is an overpriced truck. Buy a sport or O/R, spend the difference between the 2 on suspension parts and upgrades and you will run circles around a pro.

BUT if you are choosing between those 2 and those 2 only, go with the 2015 IMO.

And then if your stability control is throwing a fit, you don't have any recourse with the dealership. The Pro is great for people that don't want to deal with swapping out the suspension on a brand new truck. It is overpriced for You.

There isn't anything official on the 16 Pro, so it is hard to say one way or the other.

The 10K difference seems like plenty to do upgrades to the suspension rims and tires.

Overpriced for me? No. It's just overpriced in general. The dealers are raping the buyers for more than MSRP because it's 'special'.

Secondly, I've owned (4) second gen tacomas. All of them had the suspension ripped out within a few hundred miles of me owning them and I've never ran in to those issues.

3rd, I'm not here to start shitting in his thread, I am giving him insight on what to buy since he asked. I already called it when they announced the PRO that the buyers would end up ripping the suspension out anyway and replacing it with kings or icons, and wouldn't you know it, I was right. Just look in the second gen builds section.

And last, I'm not sure if he means '2016 PRO', it just says 2015 PRO or 2016.

That is all fine and well. Again, if someone is happy with the Pro package and doesn't want to deal with ripping the suspension out, the Pro is just fine for them. Depending on one's financial situation and preferences, it might not be worth the time or potential unintended consequences to deal with buying and installing a new suspension, wheels, and tires. There are also plenty of dealers that are selling them for under MSRP. Pro 4Runners are pretty easy to get under MSRP. A few anecdotes about people swapping the suspension out of their pro doesn't mean the package is useless. People that like to mod will mod.

It doesn't have to be stability control. It could be anything with the suspension that was defective from the factory and the dealer can now say go pound sand because you've swapped out suspension and changed the geometry. Toyota has to fix it if you didn't change anything. I was just using stability control as an example. It could be anything that has to do with the suspension.

He didn't ask "should I buy a pro or modify an OR", either.

Dude, if you got the money get the Pro now. You can drive it a few years and still have amazing resale value. It'll give you time to check out the 2016.

I think you are missing the point here buddy ...
You are entitled to your opinion, and I can respect that but you aren't giving any [valid] reason for him to save his money, buy a sport or O/R and mod it up the way he wants to. You are just defending Toyota's overpriced POS with a sub par suspension. I told him between the 2, he should buy the second gen. Why bring up the 4R in to this anyway? I guess you can bring up a different vehicle altogether but when I say Sport or O/R it's unacceptable? All right. I've said my peace, I will let the OP make his own decision.

Well yeah, since that last episode with Bane, I lost a lot of money from the commercial rights to toys and merchandise. Unfortunately when Christopher Noland said he had something great that would compete with his second movie, I was all for it and gave him liberties. Never give a director liberties. Not only could you barely understand Bale's rendition of me, but you could not understand bane. And he had so many plot holes the batwing could fit through. Needless to say I am still recovering and trying to save as much on my new truck as possible. Yes I like OPINIONS. I want to know what different people would do if faced with the options and why.

Please continue arguing, I will be petting catwoman. :D

Now I am intrigued, Going with the 2015 Which model would you pick and what type of suspension upgrade would you do. Keep the upgrade under 10K since that is the basic difference in the SR5 4x4 and the Pro.... Go!

I was actually considering this exact same thing before I went and drove an old tacoma. I know this is going to piss off a lot of people, so I will say that is not what I am trying to do, but the 2nd gen Taco feels old compared to most trucks now. The tailgate was extremely flimsy, doors didn't close as smoothly as modern trucks, interior was loud and rough, ride wasn't very comfortable. Tacoma is supposed to be a tough all-terrain vehicle and by all means it is, but you can tell it has been a long time since a redesign for the truck.

With that said, if I am going to drop $35-$45 on a new truck, I want it to feel new. The 2015 PRO looks amazing (if you can find one on the lots or have the patients to wait to order one), but as a lot of people have said, it is a bit overpriced for what it is. A lot of what the appeal is for the TRD PRO, at least for me, is the fact that it is a limited production vehicle. You are paying highly for that.

My advice, wait for the 2016. Anybody who has the money to drop on a TRD PRO probably doesn't mind turning in a year old TRD PRO to have a brand new 2016, meaning you probably will be able to find a used, but very close to new, TRD PRO later this year or early next year after 2016's are out for a few months. That will allow you (and the rest of the world) to test out the new Taco to see if it is all that we are hoping it will be, and you can compare it to the 2nd gen yourself.

What is the reason you want a TRD PRO over a TRD OR?

IMO those of you that can find and afford a PRO should buy one if its what you want. There will always be guys that will mod a new truck anyways and maybe have to deal with a warranty issue or void one all together. PRO is already done for you.

Really liking this thread...I am going to be in a similar situation in about a year as the lease will run out on my '13. So I agree with the OP...a very interesting choice to wait or buy top of the line 15...

Interesting for those of us that may not be in a situation to mod for a while after purchase...

I had a 2008 Special Addition with the black alloy rims. sounds similar to the pro except as you mentioned the cab was very out of date. No bluetooth, aux jack... etc. I dont know what I want which is why i posed the question. I have always to look right off the lot and never really change anything, but always wanted to do a lift with aftermarket rims, just havent had the cash to do it.

I say buy what you like.

If you don't like it buy something else. :)

I have the same problem, I am indecisive. So I set goals that make my decisions. example...

I could get a PRO, or a double cab OR with a supercharger. I was thinking and having trouble deciding.

I set price X for PRO with whatever options.
    -36000

I set price Y for OR with whatever options.
    -under 30000

So which ever one I can get at the better deal, since both options I like I will get.

If I got the 0ffroad I would add the supercharger, and Baja suspension.

Either way the money is as good as spent and I will love the truck.
