Towing snowmobiles with Supercharger, will my Taco handle it? Or die trying

trans temps never get terrible but he does change trans fluid sooner than the 60k mi for sure.

 

I hauled two sleds in an enclosed (clamshell) trailer about 300 miles round trip last year. I had a weekends worth of gear, snowboards, fuel, food, and beer, with s/c and still got 15 mpg at 5 above the speed limit most of the way. I don't think it's what you haul, so much as how you haul it. I think the s/c is better for hauling than it is for trying to lay down quick eighths at the strip.

 

And you can keep you tampons in all the extra space!

Tacoma will do the job just fine and look better

 

LOL funny story my old 2001 chevy 2500HD, an old ex had stashed some tampons in the center console.... i forgot about them.... most recent ex found em and was like... UMM W T F. I had splaining to do.

 

Lol, that's okay. A couple of nights ago my wife found my ex-wifes wedding veil in a box of random computer parts .

All most easier to just trash everything if you get a new woman to be sure.

 

I thought I did, but like S/C threads it never disappears until someone who wants it destroyed finds it.

 

Just last weekend I towed my 14' SnoPro trailer with two sleds on a ~500 mile round trip. The Tacoma did fine, but I noticed a definite decrease in stability compared to my '05 Tundra DC I previously towed with. Going across open fields with stiff cross winds, you want to be paying attention. More than once I found myself being blown over the center line.

I also thought to myself multiple times, "Man, this sure would be better with a S/C." Not that the 4.0L is incapable, but my loaded sled trailer weighs about 2,500 lbs., and I'm honestly not sure how comfortable I'd feel putting much more weight behind it. On the highway it seemed to struggle to maintain 65 MPH. I can't imagine towing 6,500 lbs. with it.

 

The trailer makes a huge difference too.

my 18 ft car hauler pushes me around in the wind a hell of a lot more than my 21 foot trailer.

My big trailer is stiffer, wider, longer and has heavier tires. It tows much better.

Towing in 4th will make it happier, and adding some spring or airbags will make it more stable. As will an equalizer hitch, I don't run one though.

 

I actually did tow with 4th the entire trip, which I would definitely recommend. As for airbags, I can imagine those being useful. I have a fiberglass cap, so the weight of that combined with the trailer and weekend's worth of gear, the factory springs were pretty loaded.

 

Factory springs SUCK!

My 2012 TRD OR double cab was the only one I had that had the stock springs and it sucked for everything. It waddled when towing.

I say airbags because lots of people have good luck with them. I personally don't use them as I prefer more spring all the time. I had an airbag blow out in my 4runner towing years ago and not only was it dangerous it was a PITA.
