I have asked this a few times in other threads, but the answer is still not clear because we get into other side bars.

Here is what I would like to know:

    1) In 2WD, if you press quickly the VSC OFF button, you activate AUTO LSD (which is also TRAC OFF). As I have read, both AUTO LSD and TRAC OFF lights come on, yes? There is no TRAC OFF light in my 2010 coming on.

    2) Also on in AUTO LSD from 0-30 mph is the VSC OFF light (car with wavy lines below) and that goes off over 30 mph (at least in my 2010 it does). Is that still the same in 2012+?

    3) The big question is in 4WD HIGH, when you quickly press the button and get the TRAC OFF light turned on, is the VSC OFF light also on (as in 2WD), and does it go off over 30 mph or at all?

THANK YOU for taking a few minutes to drive your 2012+ 4WD Tacoma and see if VSC goes off with the 4WD TRAC OFF mode under or over 30 mph.

Should I post this in the second gen forum instead? I hoped it would be an easy question... specially with so much snow in the rest of the country?

The vsc is off under 30 mph but over that it goes back on.

In 4WD... just like it is in 2WD? Thank you.

This makes AUTO LSD in H2 the same as TRAC OFF in H4... just 2 wheels vs. 4.

In 2009-2011 Tacomas, in H4, we have the TRAC with regulation OFF and no button pushing, but the VSC is on all the time, so we get the beep-beep-beep anytime the wheels spin, even under 30 mph. Turning VSC off, or at least the annoying beep would be nice in 4WD, but still have traction control.

    2015 DCLB:
H2:momentary press lights up "Auto LSD" & VSC off ("squiggly lines from vehicle"). When speed exceeds 30mph, 'VSC off' light goes out. Hold the VSC button, while stopped, turns "Auto LSD" light off, turns "TRAC OFF" light on, turns VSC off light on. Nothing changes when speed exceeds 30mph.
H4: momentary press VSC button turns on "TRAC OFF" light. Holding VSC button turns on the VSC off light, the "TRAC OFF" light stays on. I tried it today after I posted earlier, so am editing it now. I haven't driven above 30 mph in H4.

That was the question, does the vsc off light go out over 30 mph in H4? It does in H2... but there was no TRAC OFF light before 2012... as TRAC in H4 was TRAC OFF MODE as it is known since (no engine regulation).

I got a PM saying it does go off at 30 in H4, just like it does in H2.

In H2, with AUTO LSD light on... is there also a TRAC OFF light on at the same time? They are both the same thing (traction control with engine regulation off).

    Thank you amigos!

Not on mine. It is either press, get "AUTO LSD" and 'VSC off' lights, or hold, and get "TRAC OFF" and VSC off lights. "TRAC OFF" replaces "AUTO LSD" when you hold the button down.

My understanding from your other thread is with "TRAC OFF" and VSC off illuminated, rear diff is completely open, no traction control, no VSC. And i can say the VSC off light does not disappear at least up to about 40 mph. It was kinda icy in patches this morning, so I wanted every advantage I could get. I didn't push it any higher.

Doesn't make a lot of sense that in H2, TRAC OFF means you have nothing, zip, nada; but in H4, TRAC OFF means you have differential braking for traction control, with no throttle regulation. it is literally the same light in both cases.

It is just poor choice of names or unclear manuals...

Trac Off light (2012+) in H4 after quick push.
The same quick push in H2 gives you AUTO LSD.
In both cases you have traction control (limited slip) and the engine regulation is OFF.

TRAC OFF light (2012+) comes on in H2 after button hold down while stopped (and VSC off light too) does not make sense... as there is no traction control (with or without engine regulation).

So, in H4 when you stop and hold in the button (for VSC OFF MODE) does the TRAC OFF light come on also, as you say it does in 2WD?

    =================================================================

    2009-2011 (no TRAC OFF LIGHT):
H2: TRAC = traction control with engine regulation
H2: AUTO LSD/TRAC OFF = traction control without engine regulation (VSC off to 30 mph)
H2: VSC OFF = no traction control & no VSC (vehicle stability control)

H4: TRAC = traction control without engine regulation
H4: VSC OFF = no traction control & no VSC

    2012+:
H2: TRAC = traction control with engine regulation
H2: AUTO LSD/TRAC OFF = traction control without engine regulation (VSC off to 30 mph)
H2: VSC OFF = no traction control & no VSC (vehicle stability control)

H4: TRAC = traction control with engine regulation (new feature)
H4: TRAC OFF = traction control without engine regulation (new name and light), no VSC to 30 mph
H4: VSC OFF = no traction control & no VSC
