    F.. Just found both my cv boots ripped... Is that something I should fix before moab?? Or ami ok?? ;) I'm embarrassed to say I've never had to change out a cv..

    this is my opinion but I would say fuck it and run em till they blow. just pack a napa spare or two. they are by far the strongest aftermarket replacement and life time warranty.

    So if the boots are leaking oil there fine until they blow up? It won't harm anything else but just blow the cv??

    I used to snap em like toothpicks so as long as you don't mind the mess but im sure most people would argue with me. If you get parts we can do it in moab.

    Get a 12 pack, pry bar and a couple wrenches. You'll probably only go thru 3-4 beers and it's done. Really no big. Don't bother with the boots, just throw the Napa remans in there and call it good. Keep the old ones as spares, change the boots if you want but I'd just clean em and wrap with a bunch of electrical tape and call em good, they'll get you off the trail in a pinch.

    Mind as well change em out at home, easier than trying to do it first time while laying in the dirt in no mans land. That way you sort out what tools/pry bar etc work best for you and you can throw em in your trail bag.

    Very good idea, would u bother adding new grease to the ones I'll take off for spares? Or just leave them be and clean them up.

    I do them in 30 min max in the sand. but you act like im not gonna have air tools and a clean car trailer deck (which puts a truck at chest level). It will probably be easier to do them in BFE with my help than at home by him self. Also everyone thus far has left out the 35mm socket he needs to take them off and the half inch torque wrench needed to put them back to 175 ft lb's

    Hahah I don't have a 1/2" breaker bar :( I usually just use the end of my hi lift and put in on my wrench for a breaker bar :F
