If I can't buy a Tacoma it will be the end of civilization as we know it.

    FTW.

    '05-'06 Tundra Access Cab 4.7l:
    1. 280hp/320 torque single vvt-i with Aisin A750 5-spd auto
    2. 218 inch total length with rear step bumper about two inches longer than the Tacoma's tiny little rear step bumper you can only get your toes on.
    3. Real rear seats on the Access Cab. Fully padded foldup 60/40 split bench with underneath storage and folddown center armrest. Front bench standard for six passenger seating
    4. 79 inches wide with fender flares, 75 inches wide without fender flares.
    5. 75 inch bed
    6. 49 inches between the wheel wells
    7. Heated mirrors, 8-way power driver seat (Limited version), full leather available, factory alarm for doors/windows/hood, power rear slider, cargo lamp, locking glovebox and tailgate
    8. Pushbutton 4wd hi/lo, engages smoother than the Tacoma twist
    9. 4920 lbs curb weight (I weighed it). 2012 Tacoma was 4305 lbs curb weight, I weighed it on the same scale
    10. Better visibility from the driver seat, the Tundra side windows are taller, the windshield also.
    11. Tundra Access Cab rear windows vent
    12. MPG the Gen3 will probably top the 14/19 I'm getting with the '05 Tundra. Probably will take about 140,000 miles to get to the break even point buying a new Gen3 vs a used 2005 Tundra
    13. Negative with the 4.7l is the timing belt is recommended to be replaced every 92k miles, about $700 with water pump replaced also
    14. 7100 lb Class IV tow package
Having said all that I bet I end up with a certified used Gen3 Tacoma in say 2023 or so, because of size alone. I have about $18k into this '05 Tundra and having owned three other Toyota trucks I feel sure it will last eight more years and 100k more miles easily.

And, the final word about what you gonna buy is RESALE VALUE. The final word is used Toyota trucks especially clean 4WD's they sell private party fast and for way higher percentage of original cost than every other brand. Maybe Jeep Wrangler is up there for resale value for some reason, probably because there are so many aftermarket replacement parts cheap.

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
I like them, but I towed with one last year and my 6spd tows better

    (less shifting, better mpg)

Otherwise its very tempting. Even if it is an AUTO:eek:

I like those a HELL of a lot better than the non crewmax 2nd gen tundy.

Drive line vibration, to many trips back to dealer for all those tsb's. I ordered mine and I will say it was a nice truck. I just had enough traded it 18 months in and 8700 miles. I hope the new ones have straighten these issue out.

I understand where you're coming from I think. All the little "annoyances" are really starting to wear on me, and now the rust repairs are pissing me off. All the time I spend compiling the Cheap/Free mod thread because I was sick of looking all over the damn place to fix things that weren't up to my expectations is over. I simply don't want to put that much time and effort into another vehicle, and the 2015 F150's seemed to get large portion of my complaints with Tacoma right, if not better.

The Toyota rust issue is what would stop me from buying another one. Their paint is getting cheaper and cheaper looking, so I doubt they fixed it on the new trucks. I kind of like the 3rd gen, but it doesn't have the capacity I need in a new truck, so I have to look elsewhere anyway. I'm keeping my 1st gen regardless.

The problem with Toyota is they don't admit there's a problem with their vehicles unless they can say it's a supplier issue. Corporate said they wouldn't replace my 3rd gen 4Runner frame because Toyota made the frame in Japan, even though it had rust holes just like a Tacoma frame made by Dana in the US. But Dana had to replace all their frames. They claim they knew about the driveline vibrations, but if they really cared they would have revamped the driveline long ago. I think they take too much advantage of the buyers and don't own up to their own mistakes.

It flat out wore me down, if the tacoma was the truck I thought I was buying it would still be in my driveway. I test drove the 150 and that's all it took trust me there is no comparison. Is my 150 perfect, no I had the rear window replaced under warranty, the defroster died about a year in.

Seriously considered the f150 myself.I would definitely consider an extended warranty when yours is almost up..

Cool. I'm not expecting perfection, but I don't want to spend every weekend re-engineering it to fix issue, suit my needs, or get functionality not available from the factory.

One tell tale sign of Ford thinking a little better than Toyota is visible just by looking at your pic! The fact the rear is higher than the front means you can actually put shit in the bed and not have the bro-lean going on, blinding everyone at night because your lights are pointed to the sky like mine were with only 400lbs in the bed.

I have given it thought, my buddy got his a few days before mine he got it, I remember when I bought my 1998 Ranger they tried every angle to sell me a extended warranty I smiled and said don't need it that's why I am buying a ford.

That's good to know. I switched from oil heat to wood pellets 3 years ago. Due to the limited capacity of the Tacoma (and no trailer until late last year) I was getting 10-20 bags at a time. So 400 to 800lbs per trip, and it wasn't until I paid $500 to rebuild the factory springs that I could put the full 20 bags in without major sag. Now, I had fit around 1600 lbs in there a couple of times, but it rode so low I stopped doing that. It also still took 2 vehicles to get the full ton home, so it was easier to just stop on the way home each week for 10 bags. I haven't bought a ton at a time for the last couple of years until this week since I have a trailer. I did buy from a friend who was unloading 2 for the price of one, but I had to borrow a trailer from another friend and take 2 trucks (even with the rebuilt springs). Now I have a subcompact tractor with tiller and a 5x10 trailer to haul it, with the tongue extended 2 ft via 3x4x3/8" 8ft piece of box tube. That gives me enough room to put the loader over the front side of the trailer, but adds a lot of tongue weight. It would be nice to comfortably fit more than 10 or 20 bags in my truck and not have to stop as often (or be able to stock up more before they inevitably run out).

How long have you had the F150? How many miles? Any issues? Dealer here said I could extend the bumper to bumper warranty from 3/36k to 5/100k for $2500 or less. Any thoughts on that? I'm not an extended warranty person so I never buy them, but having everything aside from wear items covered for 5 years is intriguing. Part of me wonders how that compares to "Toyota Care" that "every new Toyota comes with" according to the commercials I've heard. I don't recall having anything like that when I bought the truck. I had to fight with the to fix the front diff under warranty, re-glue the ribs under the hood when they separated from the top skin, and couldn't get them to give me one of the new stronger tailgates because I'd fixed it myself waiting for them to figure out WTF to do.

Maybe I'm getting old, but I just don't want to fuck with anything anymore. :anonymous:

We used to have a 2001 Windstar. At about 4 years it developed numerous electrical issues, and at 5 we had had enough and traded it in. Only the engine and transmission were reliable on that beast, everything else went wonky. We've never strayed from Toyota since.

Oh, and we bought a house a few months after getting the truck (despite my wife saying that would drop my credit enough to not let us get one), and quickly realized how many building materials are 8ft or longer. Now she has goats, ducks and chickens so we get hay bales and again, having a longer bed would be useful.

I help out with managing our fleet trucks at my location. All trucks can go bad. Fords seem to hold up better than GM or Dodge trucks in my experience, but we've also had the odd issue. If you want to keep your truck for a long time, do the maintenance on the shortest recommended interval (the sever duty interval). That's what makes a truck last.

Also, if you buy an Ecoboost change to synthetic oil. Trust me.
