Do you mean AFR, as in Air to Fuel Ratio.... I don't think the Ultragauge can do that and if it does the readings won't pull fast enough from the ECU to be useful. My scangauge II can pull the AFR from the ECU but the lag in readings means I'll do damage before I know what's going on. You need someone with a calibrated wideband based AFR gauge for true readings IMHO.

I'm skeptical on this product but stranger things have worked. If this product is similar to a CAI in how it manipulates the tune then I would suspect the gains to be better in the high RPM range and the fuel economy to vary with the driving style of each owner. Some will benefit, others will find it wanting. For only $40 bucks though you could do worse things that would cost you far more money *cough* bullydog *cough*.

Yes, a wideband AFR similar to the one we use on our dyno.

The signal the ECU sees from our EB is almost identical to what it sees from a CAI... you are spot on ;)

If it is manipulating the engines tune or tricking the ecu, then there has to be a downside to that I would think.

From what they've said they are basically trying to gain power by shaving off some of the safety margin that's built into the tune of the truck by mechanically calibrating the MAF. I'll wait for dyno results but it's an interesting approach if nothing else.

and remember, its not that they dont want to show dyno results, is that they didnt have the correct part to attach the truck to the dyno lol.

we did try, and cant wait to see the results.

on my truck, so far so good.

Sorry if this has been asked but I notice the description says more benefits the more aggressive you drive. So if I drive like a grandpa will this not do very much for me?

That description is based on the percentage of time spent in open or closed loop fueling Grandpa.
In the closed loop fueling mode there will be a slight increase in power but not much in fuel mileage, then when you get in the throttle to accelerate and enter the open loop fueling mode is when you will see the greatest increase in power an fuel mileage.

I changed the air fuel ratio in open loop fueling which lowers the amount of fuel entering the engine, less fuel being burned = better mileage... simple math. The leaner AFR and the increased ignition timing make the engine run more efficient and this increase in efficiency is the final goal.

We have the adapters now, drop on by when you have some time and we will toss your truck on the dyno.

Running too lean is bad. You have to make sure its not too lean. And if your getting better milage in only open loop its going to do nothing for the regular driver. And your trying to trick people in saying, your get better milage, when the increase is only in open loop where mpg sucks anyway. You will still get better mpg in closed loop mode even with the increase in mpg in open loop.

So don't go aroundbtrying to get in open loop thinking you will get better mileage.

So what I get 10mpg instead of 8mpg when I'm at WOT?

Sorry but thats not worth much.

Is the product doing something, yes, are you advertising exactly what it is doing, apparently not.

Did you not just read what Quirt said? o_O

Slight gain in Closed loop, greatest gain in Open loop. Those are still relative terms any way, but by no means chiseled in stone. Let them get their testing done. Then they can say exactly what it does.

Please define what is "too lean" for us and then how do we make sure its not too lean.

Could you also please tell us what percentage of the time the regular driver spends in closed loop compared to open loop? What are the parameters that define open and closed loop?

    Thanks

Well its a land Cruiser with a diesel so I've got that going for me.
Do you know why I love TW... no one bats an eye at all the things we do to our trucks to kill MPGs and often are forced onto folks as necessary (tires, lifts, plate steel, gears...) but the second someone comes along with something that might give a boost in power/MPG they get absolutely shit upon by folks who likely lack the knowledge to really speak on what the product is doing...they just assume everything is snake oil... I bet those same folks dont realize how much performance is brought on by properly gapped plugs and a clean air filter...

Why so many people believe that open loop is only WOT..........

Some flags and center console divider... lots of things on the wanted list.
I would like to know this too. I guess I could go buy a $1k computer to let me know when I am in all of these positions, and drive around with it connected... Or I could just give a part a try, see if it does anything for me. If it doesn't I can send it back for a refund. Weird concept to me...

I'm up for anything that might give me a bit more go, and even a 1mpg gain to me is worth it, as most of my driving is at 65-70mph on the highway, or going up mountains/hills in my daily driving.
Gray has nothing but negative stuff to say all over this board for the most part. I was going to post something like Quirk did... but I think it was better he did.
