This has nothing to do with my 1st gen but I drove it to check out a completely stock 1997 LX450 (FJ80 Land Cruiser) with 167k miles today and I loved this LX. I wasn't prepared to pay the $7,900 the seller was wanting because banks close early.

    Now here's the twist...

The seller is getting lots of interest for this vehicle and has been offered $8,500 (so he says). I believe him because I couldn't find one with under 200k miles for less than $10k.
As I was checking out the LX450 the seller asked if I'd be able to offer a higher price than the $7900 I said I was willing to pay when we spoke on the phone the day before. He declined my offer when I asked him to hold it till Monday with a $300 deposit. As a seller I get it that he wants more money because after listing it for sale he's finding out there is a demand for this vehicle BUT, should I pay more than the price we verbally agreed on? or should I move on and keep searching?

I guess it depends on what I'm willing to spend but the deal just left me sour because the day before I told him that I'm willing to pay his full asking price. I guess I should of had the cash in hand tonight. Sorry for the rant but I thought I had found "the one" but maybe we can still make a deal...

Similar thing happened to me when I was looking for my Tacoma. I met the guy we worked a deal and I was going to get a check from the bank. Then he would answer my call, he eventually texted me that some one offered him more so he sold it to them instead, he didn't even give me the chance to match it. It worked out in the end though for a few more grand I ended up getting a double cab with same miles instead of a regular cab.

It's really up to you on what it's worth. He should be a man of his word and honor the deal with you but such is life.

Ha..I coulda done that several times..ha

It's not bad. Pretty straight forward. 4 bolts hold it on to the crossmember. The top/middle one is the worst.

The just undo the steering linkage and hose lines and that's pretty much it.

Alright, I think I'm just going to keep the antenna I have currently. From what I've read in here, it seems like upgrading to a 4' isn't worth it right now. I don't have money to waste

It would make sense to replace the pump and rack at the same time since both are going out wouldn't it?

If your pump is not making noise, I'd keep running it. It's easy enough to change/clean later if needed.

I'd prolly flush it out real good when you put the new rack in to keep things clean.

I noticed that too. That's a lot of tongue weight if you put a lawn mower or something heavy on there. Maybe it's not designed to haul anything heavy though.
