5spd 98 tacoma 3RZ-FE engine removal

    3 inch Rough Country lift kit, Rough Country shocks in the rear, Gabriel starts in the front, 31 inch tires, Alpine deck and speakers. Just upgraded head lights and side markers. Added K&N intake, Pacesetter Header,& Gibson Exhaust
    Does transmission need to be removed with engine or can I just remove engine itself? I keep hearing different stories and just want to know the easiest way to go about it! So far just getting to timing chain and secondary chain has been undesirable!

    It can be done to just pull the motor. It be like a reverse clutch replacement. Going to be a pita trying the line it up when it goes back in. You'll have to undo all the motor mounts and find a way to hold every thing.

    I haven't done a 4x4 motor pull yet, but I'd drop the transfer case first and pull the motor and tranny out together for the least headache.

    Thanks, I have motor mounts out, all the bolts out! Engine is on hoist and have pulled engine about two inches from bell housing but it just won't let go!

    The input shaft is longer than 2" (insert that what she said) gotta wiggle the tranny back until you clear the clutch
