How's the FJ doing comparison wise to your runner now that you've had it for a bit?

My snow removal efforts are falling apart.

I broke my only shovel yesterday while I was on the roof shoveling it off. I ended up having to buy a shovel at the local grocery store, which I can already tell I'm going to break by the end of the season. The blade is dark blue and I can already see areas where the handle mount that are bright blue showing stress points.

Next season I'm hoping I have some more cash in the kitty and I want to go big.

This is what I have in mind, or equivalent.

Then I'd like to get some reasonable shovels and I should be good to go.

I love it! The AWD is great in all weather, and the traction control is far less invasive with the manual transmission. I hated how the traction would shut down all the power on the auto.

I'll have to compare brands. I'm partial to Toro just because my Mom's got a Toro mower that's pushing 25 years and I've been trying to kill it for easily the past 20, but ultimately I'll have to see them and go back and forth and see which one suits me best.

With the layout of my driveway, I need something that will absolutely launch the snow. It's a small driveway at the base, but it's a solid 5-6 cars wide at the top. I know it's probably ridiculous to spend $2,000+ on a snowblower, but I'm of the mindset at this point, get something super nice, own it for 20 years.

I feel the same way. I would rather buy once. To me Ariens is the way to go as far as snow blowers. I will either make my purchase now if I find a deal or I will wait till Sept-Oct to purchase

Glad I don't have traction control. It was useless in all of my previous vehicles.

Yup I broke 2 shovels this winter..the good ones, at that. Been a rough one.

I had an Ariens 4hp that I gave my brother in law this fall. Not very powerful but it works okay. At least 25 yrs old.

Mike, at 2 grand what would a plow setup run you?

You couldn't pay me to put a plow on my truck.

I toyed with a CUCV K5 with a plow, but then I'd have to find a place to store it in the off-season. I don't think I could deal with a lawn ornament.

Yeah not a great idea but just figured if you're at that price point perhaps it's an option worth considering.

Granted I have a small driveway, but mine works great..even with the 6 foot walls I have now it throws right over them easily.

I fully understand the sentiment. I just don't think our trucks are ideal for plowing, and since it can be really hard on the truck, I wouldn't want to risk it.

I think after breaking my snowblower this year and running out of places to put snow, right now I'm in the "eff it, I'm getting the biggest one I can find" mode. Plus my hope is to purchase one now and have it for 20 years, although I feel like in today's world of planned obsolescence, that's not happening.

I still would love to have an old K5/Bronco with a plow, simply because it would be deeply entertaining to have a complete beater truck. That being said, every time I see a lot that has an 84-95 Yota as a lot plow truck, I get nostalgic for my old one. Of course, I highly doubt I could find another 84-95 Yota with a solid frame that would be worth owning at this point.

Yeah I agree, probly better to have a dedicated plow rig..maybe not even street legal just for home use.

Same thought I had after last year..my machine was just too old and underpowered.

I love the puddles on a day like today..I use them for a free undercarriage wash :)

I have a little hatchet I use...very carefully...and once the channel is mostly cut I dump a pile of ice melt in it and it brings it down to the shingles...

I broke my shovel on the roof yesterday so I went to Lowes and bought the only POS shovel they had and I broke that in 2 hours...So I returned it today and found one at walmart that's made in the usa...fingers crossed..

I did the same trick with the ice dams mentioned before, good to know that's the proper thing to do. I was just in panic mode and figured it couldn't hurt. I ended up following Billy's lines and made my own roof rake. Piece of PVC with angle at the end connecting to a deck board. It worked well enough for what it is. Yesterday's melt was nice, roof is at least clear now.
