Color Matched Grill

Can anyone tell me what I will need to change the grill in my 2015 Tacoma to the color matched one besides the grill itself? Is it just screwed in or does it have a bunch of those plastic clips around the perimeter? How about the hood rubber weather stripping? Thanks to anyone who has made the swap!

This is the DIY short version.
On my 2007 there are 2 bolts that hold the grill down and two plastic clips on the head light bracket that hold the grill in. Pop those off to get the Grill off your truck. Then there are a bunch of plastic tabs that hold the two pieces of the grill together. They are plastic welded or melted to hold grill together. I think you have to Dremel them out.

The Rubber weather stripping is just held in by little plastic things. You can see how they are held in after you remove the grill from your truck.

Paint it yourself or get it painted.

Reassemble.

The easiest way is to just buy a color matched one and just swap them.

ok I ordered the color matched grill assy. I'm now looking for a color matched rear bumper but not finding one. Are you guys just powder coating your chrome one or does Toyota have an OEM super white rear bumper?

I'm not sure how the rear chrome bumper will look with the all white fromt end? Anybody running the white front end and grill with the stock chrome rear bumper? If so, could you do me a favor and post a couple pics? Appreciate any help. Thanks

 

Oh Toyota will have a Super White bumper alright. For a hefty price tag.

 

I had a hate relationship with my factory chrome also, grills are cheaper to buy painted, link above is a great price btw. Body shop told me it would be cheaper to buy a bumper from a junk yard and have it painted to match even if its not the same color than to buy a new one, so maybe give that a look.

P.S also Toyota sells them as a "ready to paint" part if you order a new one for any truck, then they will paint it locally in most cases if you want a specific color.

So, I think I'm going with Pelfrybuilt on the rear bumper. There are a bunch of good looking bumpers out there and I think they are all better than the Toyota one. Have ice on the ground and another snow storm coming. Maybe somebody will hit my rear bumper and I can just get a new one... Yeah, that's a really big hassel, I don't want that.

Not sure if you would know. Was just checking through rockauto. What is the deal with the different types of products. They have economy line, regular line or reconditioned. Is the only oem choice the reconditioned?

 

You have personal experience with the RockAuto grills? If so please share. Pissing away $150 doesn't make anybody one of the cool kids. For a piece of molded ABS plastic that I'm going to paint anyhow I'll take the savings, thanks. And I'll keep the pug ugly chrome surround to put back on the truck when I eventually sell it.

 

I dont think RockAuto sells anything OEM. Most of their stuff I wouldn't order if it had moving parts, was subject to corrosion, etc.

 

Once I sold my OEM chrome, I only spent about $40 for a OEM color matched front grill surround. You need to take that into account, you can sell your take off for a solid $125-$150 on CL.
