Well my Tacoma turned 1 :D I would like to do my own vehicle maintenance, the way the dealer would normally treat a truck after 12 months.

I've searched and couldn't find anything definitive (every site said to do something different) on what procedure to follow in servicing this vehicle.
Any suggestions on where to start? Already Changed the oil to synthetic, air filter, cabin filter... What next?

Almost forgot to mention. When I was looking under the hood, I found crusty coolant around one of the hoses attached to the coolant reservoir. Normal?

Ah great. Copy and paste doesn't work well on my phone. That is from the Toyota Warranty and Maintenance guide for 4.0L engine. It starts on page 34 on thI'd manual. I think it's on the Toyota website? I downloaded mine a while ago.

Yup. Put a small clamp on and good to go. Maintenance wise, don't forget to grease ujoints if you're 4x4 and rotate your tires. Being you are 1 year old and depending on mileage, every 30k is when i change sparkplugs and differential oils(doubt your mileage is that high yet)

Thanks guys, I will clean it up and tie wrap it.

Nah its only 8,000 miles. At the moment, I do mainly city driving here in Hollywood California. However I learned that 5 hours of slow traffic a day, can put a huge strain on any vehicle.

Maintenance is done more on mileage and not necessarily on time (unless your truck sits for long periods).

You're at 8,000 miles...... You should have already done one oil & filter change at 5,000 miles. You should have rotated your tires at 5,000 miles. Other than that....You should be good. Look in your owners manual for other maintence and you'll know what to do next....at 10,000 miles.

    REAR DIFF FLUID!!!

CHANGE THAT SHIT! I changed mine at all of 6k miles and the break in oil was N A S T Y!!!

Also grease your u joints (all trucks should have greasable joints now regardless of 4x4 or not)

Will, do. I have a ton of free time next Sunday. Should be fun doing all these things.

Thanks for the tip. I actually had it serviced by the dealership at the 5,000 mile mark. I sure hope they rotated my tires while it was there.

Check the lug nut torque. They botched my 2014 4Runners lug torque when it went in for the 10K service. Air pressure was all over the place.

    nother thing...

dont even bother with the dealer for oil changes.

you can buy a 10 pack of oil filters (OEM) n drain plug gaskets on ebay for 45 bucks and do the oil change yourself.

While you let the oil drain, take 5 min to lube the driveshaft u joints (something the dealer DOES NOT DO). Once done greasing them with your grease gun, pop the drain plug back in, change the filter and fill her back up with oil and you will be good.

As far as the rear diff changing it so early on is to just get rid of the nasty break in oil, once that is done your good for some time.

Clamp is ok, a tie wrap is a no-no for that purpose.

    I'll bite. Why not? Heat?

As an example: I had a tie wrap on my Matrix for about 50K and it was still good.

It depends on what the tie wrap was sealing.

Tie wraps do not fully encompass the tubing at the lock end. This could potentially allow a leak at the area of less clamping pressure. Smaller tubing is more risky, but of course it depends on what you're clamping and the line pressure.
