I live in Pineville, Louisiana and work for Dresser inc building safety and safety relief valves, they recently told us the plant will be closing in the next year or so, and beings I aint but 22 years old, im probably going to move out of state and try something different than living in the same old place. Anybody have any good suggestions? I really want to move where its a decent amount of snow in the winter time, because I've always wanted a white Christmas, and partially because I've recently gotten a Siberian husky pup, and I think shed like it where it was cold to. Any help would be appreciated people!!!

only problem with east is I've never been one for big city life, and I don't think ill mind the snow. lol. and I would just be replacing heating bills with cooling bills. apparently you've never heard of Louisiana weather, if you don't like it, just wait and it'll change. [IMG]

Yessir! that's the sorry sap suckers that are closing the place. Its still considered dresser inc for all extensive purposes though. That's what our paychecks say anyhow.

That might be why the plant is closing. GE has a thing for cheap Mexican labor to manufacture their products. Of course this could be why their appliances suck. Stupid NAFTA crap.

OP, do you speak Spanish?

lol, naw I don't. And that's the thing that gets us all. They aren't moving it somewhere cheaper, they are moving it to Jacksonville, Florida. But there isn't anything we can do at this point.

No, itll still be under the dresser name because that's just what the customers recognize our product as. They bought us out 4 years ago, they just have let us be up untill now.

Well at least they are keeping it in the US. Too many manufacturing jobs are being lost because big companies are moving their factories where the cheapest labor is. Labor unions have been at least partially responsible for this happening.

I can attest to that, our union didn't try and do anything to keep the job here, just tried to secure the older groups retirement and whatnot.

All my family that has traveled abroad has said Utah, and that is one that is weighing heavy on my mind to visit before they close the plant, to maybe start a job hunt. Anybody know of any good places to work out that way, and know how the snow is out there?

Get on some of the job search engines like Monster.com, CareerBuilder.com etc. type up a resume, post it and go to where the best opportunity is.

Don't limit yourself only to what you have done. Look for opportunities to learn new skills so you can become a more valuable asset to a potential employer. ;)

Thanks for the advice there buddy, haven't really had to job hunt much. Got the job I have now right out of school, and I had family that helped me get on out there, so it wasn't a big ordeal.

St lake city is a short drive to the mountains too

Yo... There is an old famous saying. " go west young man"..If this float your boat. Then start looking to see any jobs there.
Utah is great place if you mind the mormons way of life. I had been there for years for fly in to see family in southwest area of Wyo.

going east doesnt mean cities. Im almost 3 hours from a big city (boston). Where I live, berkshire county ma, has everything your looking for. Coincidentally, what your looking for is causing me and my family to hopefully leave within a few years. Were sick of long, cold winters. We spend half the damn year inside waiting for nicer weather. Goodbye massachusetts.
