Wow, I feel better now that I only paid $30,096 to drive off the lot with mine. :)

Edit: Results not typical. I got a really good deal. Your actual price may vary. ;)

I looked for months before buying a 2014 access cab new last fall.

I also paid too much, much more than you as I am up here in Canada, but after looking at the used market and seeing units with more than 100k Km on them for over $20k, I bit the bullit for a new one.

This is my third Toyota 4x4. The first was an 83 diesel land cruiser style that I ranged from Alaska to Belise in. Just over 300k on it when I sold it and while it ran fine, it rusted away.

The next was the last year before the Tacoma. A 95 I think. I sold it with under 300k on it, but I should have kept it as there was nothing wrong with it.

I did the head on the first one. Clutch on the second and of course I had to replace the suspension on the pick up.

The rear dif on the 95 went just out of warenty, but Toyota came through and replaced it at no charge.

Other than breaks and tires, not much ever went wrong with those trucks. In the interim I have been around all kinds of other brands and I have not been so impressed.

Today I had some rock sliders welded on. Soon I will need better rear springs which will cause me to need to beef up the front end. Then I expect to use it for a decade or so.

Last summer I did a 7000 mile road trip in the USA in my friends Tacoma with over 260 k miles on it. We had it overloaded with gear and went from Washington state to Alabama and many points in between. Some wheeling in the high country. No problems.

The cheque I handed over to the dealer was for more than I owed on my first mortgage for a house in the city of Vancouver BC. At just shy of $40k cdn, it was too much, I am just glad I was able to do it.

Enjoyed reading your story Peter , I also have had Toyota 's in the past . I liked my 2002 Tundra , my wife has the sienna van she loves it . 2001 highlander very nice ride . Like I said maybe on the high side , but years down the road when it's still ticking I will be glad I bought it . Also was a Hugh Canucks fan when Dave tiger Williams was patrolling the ice for victims . The guy could also score goals and make plays , a rare breed in today 's game .

I got my 12 DCSB TRDSport 6MT for just a c-hair over $30k OTD, new in Dec of '12. No nav or the 18 inchers though. Got a deal on Costco for 800 over sticker. The dealer had it for $33,300 and with the Costco deal it brought it to $30,200 OTD.

Op you gotta pay to play. If you dont need a full size its really the only choice.

I got a 2006 AC Prerunner with 17000mi on it 2 years ago for $21k plus $3.5k trade in.

    $17,500 OTD. Beat that.

82 year old man, original owner, garaged, with cap and interior plush storage like the 80s Toyotas used to have. My stepdad is manager of lexus dealership otherwise would have never happened. "Hot sale price" was 24,999.

I bought a DCLB SR5 in January and paid full sticker price. All I could get out of the dealer was an additional $500 on my trade-in, and even with that extra $500, it was $1500 less in trade than the $7000 the Chevy dealer would give me on a new 1500 4x4 double cab work truck. And the Chevy dealer was down about $7000 off the sticker on top of that. Bottom line: my Toyota cost $6000 more out the door than a base full-size Chevy work truck.

For the first time in my life I ultimately paid full sticker price because I am betting it will be a better deal in the long run. That says a lot because my frugality is exceeded only by my wife's.

Don't dwell on it, just drive it and take care of it.
