What about the Shield. Is that a pretty good starter or first handgun. Haven't held the Glock 26 Gen 4 just b/c I don't wanna be like I gotta have it but in reality I haven't planned on spending that much.

    Thanks,

The cheapest I've seen the Shield around here is $399.99 and thats at Dunham's sports. The gun shops want $420-$450. I haven't tried to talk them down either though. Can you talk most gun shops down?

My dad has a Shield .40 that I carry some, really comfortable gun to me, and we haven't had a malfunction yet (only put ~200 rounds through it though)

My carry gun is a shield. They are normally right around $400 so it's in your budget also.

Really try to shoot them before you decide to buy. What feels good in your hand doesn't always mean that you'll be accurate with it.

depends on the shop really, my buddy has a shop so he always gives me a good price but it doesn't hurt to try making an offer.

I've shot my father in laws Shield .40 before he got rid of it and I liked the feel of it and the way it shot for the most part. Only thing me and him didn't like was how snappy the .40 liked to jump when shot. If I get one I'm thinking about getting a Talon grip for it.

.40 kinda sucks... I converted my GF's G22 to 9mm and never turned back.
Sometimes I run .40 through it, then remember it isn't that fun to shoot and is way too expensive for what it is.
    9mm for a budget, but I generally prefer .45.

My buddy's M&P cant feed steel 9mm ammo but his glock eats it like nothing. Although I probably wont shoot 9mm, I dont want to own a gun that is picky with ammo.

Hey, the weather and gun laws are better...

The people here certainly aren't as nice as SE'ers though, I can say that. I do miss the South's hospitality and...foliage. Everything here that's a plant is dead or looks dead.

My Shield 40 is awesome! Apex trigger w/ Ameriglo Pro i-dot sights. Used as my daily cc, and fires soooo much better/controllable than my old Glock 27. I have large hands. Think I bought it for $425.

Got a quick question for you guys. I'm getting another ruger Blackhawk in .45 colt. I can't decide barrel length. I've already got a 7.5" barrel on my current one. So I'm gonna get either the 4 5/8" barrel or a 5.5" barrel. Which should I get?

Here are pictures of the two for reference

    4 5/8"

    5.5"

5.5" .45LC uses slow burning powder and you could use the longer bbl.

I should have mentioned, I carry my 7.5" from time to time and odds are this one will be carried. I may also do a caliber conversion on it and put a 5 shot .454 Casull cylinder in it (takes a good bit of gunsmithing)

I'd look for a used Glock before I'd buy a Taurus. Law Enforcement turn in guns go for around $400 and usually have upgraded night sites. I just picked a Glock 23 LE Trade-in for $329. Gun is like brand new except for some cosmetic holster wear..good luck.
