Dear Taco, no, Deer Taco

I was in the center lane on the interstate on my way home last night, there was a deer laying in the center lane ahead of me. I figured if I tried to avoid hitting it I'd hit someone in the right lane or left lane or they would hit me, so I drove right over it. Good thing the Taco rides high. I checked under the Taco when I got home an next to nothing, just tiny piece of hair and meat, half the size of a dime. The pick up on my left swerved left and almost hit the median divider.

 

Close call, good thing you weren't in a car!

 

Yeh, I do my maintenance with out a jack, just get on my back and slide under. I can just about reach my arm under her car.

 

Good call and quick thinking. It's good you didn't panic like the other guy did... that can just make the situation worse.

 

I was lucky too. The guy to my left came within an inch or two before he swerved left.

 

Show us the body fragments, hair etc. Any skid marks on the skid plate? What about blood splatter and body fluid transfers. Come on - need details.

If there's anything in my lane - squirrel, dog, cat, deer, opossum, armadillo - I just brace my hands on the wheel and keep driving straight.

Someone will come along later for the road kill. Might have eaten it myself at the local cafe. Who knows?

Next time field dress it and take it home!

 

Way to show the others that if you want to ride over a dead deer than buy a Tacoma.

 

good call going right over it. I had that happen to me in my wife's old acura...very low to the ground, went right over it. Blood splatter and hair all over but no body damage. Also on my mc one night, saw it last second, went to dirt bike stance, and caught air off the deer. both instances could have been much worse if I tried to swerve.

 

That was the point, the truck rides high, only just tiny piece of hair and meat, half the size of a dime, as I said in original post. Nothing to show. Not good for you but very good for me.

 

Glad your OK. I was always told just hit it and that's what I thought about . Around here a lot of people try to avoid hitting dear and go off the road hitting trees, rolling over, stuck in a ditch etc.

 

I suppose any truck will do but I like to think my Taco is special.

 

You probably are joking but that happens around here on local roads but this was on the interstate, 3 lane, 75 mph, LOL on that.

I grew up in a small town in NJ and there were kids in the next town over that used to hunt deer at night with lights and 22s!!! All of a sudden I hear bangos!

 

Deer are rapidly becoming a PITA for everyone. Vermin. All the animal rights morons in this country... I smacked a deer front and center with a taco last fall on I-80. No traffic around me, but I have learned to not swerve. Took out the grill but little body or bumper damage. Still $4,500 bill. You are lucky you went over the deer. This one ran right in front of me. Suicide deer.

I say "Issue deer tags to everyone and bill it to the Stimulus Package"!!

 

When I was a kid they closed school first day of dear season, nobody'd be there anyway. Salt licks and lights R still used but schools don't close now.

 

Glad U R O K. We have deer and bear in the yard now. Woods are getting too small to hold them. Years ago U never saw them even when U went hunting, unless U were lucky.
