Forced induction makes power by reducing the effort to bring air into the engine. An engine is a big vacuum pump it takes lots of power to draw air/fuel into the cylinders the turbo/super charger forces air in making it easier for the engine to get the mix into the cylinders.

You're missing the point. The factory tune runs really rich. As i explained a few posts above. When you lean that overly rich mixture, from say 10.0:1 to 12.5:1, for N/A, then fuel consumption is saved and power is gained.

When you read AFR on a scan gauge it is an average the fuel system is not static it goes from rich to lean because of reaction times the bottom line it is trying to produce a 14.7:1 mix If you read O2 sensor voltage you will see that happening.

The factory is not going to run a rich mix they would not meet emission standards and there is no earthly reason they would want too.

Clearly you have no AFR gauge and are going off of hypotheticals, and don't know about tuning. Do I honestly need to get a video made to show you what the AFR does from factory tuning?

No. Forced Induction creates power by cramming as much O2 molecules as possible into a cylinder. The more O2 you have, the more fuel you add, the bigger combustion will be produced. It's the difference between a boosted application which has a positive atmosphere vs n/a which will never reach past 0 psi unless you are running ram air.

The n/a mods like CAI's and exhaust will allow the engine to breath easier, which is what you are ascribing to forced induction.

    Hey TOR,

Never realized the fuel mixture was not static

See attached picture of my AFR readings in third gear after my fine tuned map with the URD MAF controller. The stock mixture in open loop is not slightly rich, its f$/?%$ rich. To maintain a mixture between 11 and 12 AFR i had to removed a lot of fuel. Some cells of my MAP are now set at 8.5 compare to 10 that is a neutral value. At WOT it changes the MAF reading for 320 g/s to 270 g/s.

So even though 14.7 is ideal do manufacturers tune them rich because at 14.7 the temp inside the cylinder is just a little to hot that it will ware the engine faster or cause early failure?

As Quirt mentioned earlier, that is the best theoretical stoichiometric ratio for catalytic efficiency. It is also where the majority of time is spent by drivers while cruising.

In the events where more load is added to the engine, through acceleration, for example, more fuel needed to prevent detonation. It also act as a way to cool the cylinder temperatures.

Industry standards are 12-13 AFR for best performance from N/A applications, and 10.8-11.5 for boosted. On gasoline. With room for variance depending on other factors.

The point is, again, OEM's a tuning for a lot of the worst case scenarios. Thus make the AFR's richer while under heavy loads, within reason, as it is effectively safer.

A lot of wiggle room for the aftermarket, to safely make changes for performance, on vehicles. Usually the aftermarket finds out quickly which flaws there are in OEM systems and components. OEM builds the base and aftermarket builds upon it.

Theoretically 14.7 Afr will make the most power efficiently right, but in certain citation more fuel is need to keep cylinder temps down.

But can you make more power running rich or lean, just one is using fuel to soaking up heat while the other is running too hot and is increase risk for detonation.

A wideband Lambda / AFR sensor is necessary to get the true picture of what is going on. And a must for any tuner out there.

    Hence the term Lean pop!

Throw a little NOS in the mix and you can throw the intake manifold right off the engine! Don't ask me how I know this!! :D
