So the other day I got down and took the actuator apart.

Out side was rough but inside looked spotless. Had a small crack on the housing cover, repaired it, and since the rod holding the small gear was frozen I loosened it.

cleaned everything up, lubed it, gasket maker then got it ready to be put in.

I read from a few places I would have to lock the diff and the actuator before putting in. So I pushed the teeth in the diff to lock, plugged the actuator in the plug and pushed the RR button to lock the actuator.

Motor runs and you can hear it fairly well sounds strong, but the gear on the actuator doesn't move. just for the sake of trying I put it in, in the locked position, and tried to lock and unlock the diff. it wouldn't.

    So am I missing something?

I know I'm not being as thorough but when putting back together I aligned the angled part about 180 degrees from the top so it was pretty much standing up vertically. Opposite to the inner ridge of the cover.

I also noticed when I turned it by hand either way the small gear would not move.

Hopefully someone can help me out. I would love to be able to use it!

    Checklist :
    Motor runs
    inside clean and lubed
    small gear doesn't turn
    was in 4low
    rear end jacked up

I'll update the thread when I have time for the links that I used. I noticed a lot of the links that people said was helpful was unavailable also.

The first time I rebuilt my actuator, I had the spring and pin on the wrong side. So everything turned, but the lever wasn't moving correctly. Double check that and hopefully it will correct your problem.

I wish I had a picture of it.

I tried following this site among some others http://rodnh.byethost12.com/tacoma/locker.htm

Borrowed his picture and I drew how I put it in. Black is the solid metal piece. Green is the gap where the large gear sat in. And red is the coil spring.

I didn't remove the shaft because I was able to move the shaft. Should it rotate freely? I had an small adjustable wrench and at first it was pretty frozen. After working it I got it free.

I think you're referring to the worm gear.

So there's the little gear on a rod that is attached to the outside which turns the lock.
The large interior gear that is connected to the worm gear and has electrical connections.
Then there is the worm gear.

My issue is the small gear on the rod not moving.

And when I had it open when I rotated the large gear I coundnt make the rod rotate.

You can hear the motor move so I figure it's fine.

I did notice going 1 way the motor would move faster and going the opposite way it would move slower.

Did I insert the spring and gears the right way? I believe thag small lip on the interior would bump the large gear's curved slot.

Just had to fix my e-locker also. I can think of two things. That spring gets split around that metal piece. One side goes on each end so it gets Tension. Not sure if I explained that to well. If you search differential lock you can find some good info and pics on here. Thats how I fixed mine. Also when I tightened up the three nuts/bolts it wouldnt work right. I couldnt tighten down either the top stud or the bottom two all the way. Back them off a couple turns and it works fine. I think the salt did to much damage where my gear is and its a little tweeked. Dont really know why it works that way now. Good luck.

Thanks. Did you see my picture where I drew my positioning. I think that's the only issue I'm having. I hear the motor run strong but no movement on the little gear. I'll retake it apart and fiddle with it some more. I wish someone had a picture of how it's suppose to sit before installation.

Bump anyone know the position the pieces are suppose to be in when putting them back in? Everyone is saying it needs to be in the correct position but no one says what that position is.

I ended up buying two extra elockers that didn't work but have already been opened up so I can't tell what the original position was. One was off a 4Runner and while the outside was the same it ran a double spring. Odd
