Sorry to hear it. We got the same setup, but I haven't used mine yet. I'd expect to run a rope around the back end of the load for just this sort of possibility. However, I may have a use for the scrap leftovers of the 3/4 inch rubber stall mat I installed in the bed.

Re-doing this spare bedroom and finally found a comforter, shams, skirt, sheets, and valence that match. The colors aren't exact match to the walls, but it's a spare bedroom for crying out loud!! Besides....everything else was BUTT UGLY!!

I hate it when ya go out and buy everything. Come home and find out something doesn't fit right.

I took all sorts of measurements before I left and I ended up buying shades that were too short (wide). ugh! Back to the store....

I think remodeling is fun...but deadly (Kinda like tacoma modifcations). You start one project and you suddenly begin to see all the other projects (and just how ugly your house & stuff really is).

 

Now we have a good start on the work, tomorrow we should be painting with maybe sunday laying the tile floor. I have a friend who is a good singer and have been waiting to see him perform on the big stage, and now I am catching grief from the wife that there is too much work to be done and an 8:00 pm show is too early to quit working. I'll do the work but I don't want to live and breathe it, I can't just go without her, this sucks. Remodeling is not about consumption.

 

Finally I am done, what a bitch! Every time I went to complete something, i.e. install toilet and sink, the pluming failed and had to redo it, old houses are nothing but work, I have to admit, I learned a lot and now I get to build my shed !

I get to do new windows in a couple weeks.... yay!

 

I enjoy house remodeling. You take out something that was an eyesore and put back something that is beautiful. When you uncover something that's not to code, for example using 14 gauge wire to re-route the 230 for the dryer, or using 11 layers of particle board to raise the shower pan, or not wanting to re-use an existing service and just filling up the 1900 box with drywall mud and then taking the label off the circuit breaker in the panel box, it gives you a chance to make things the way they're supposed to be done.

Countless times I've had to go behind someone who 'thought' they could do whatever it was they were trying to accomplish during a remodel. The sad thing is alot of important information can be found just by searching online or getting a book that deals with the task.

Of course it helps that I have a job in the construction industry and being able to get information or help from one of the other trades is crucial.

 

Oh good ! when your done you can come on up and teach me how to ... the last quote I got was $9000, just for the first floor !

 

Yes you are right, but what gets me is that I NEVER claimed I was good or smart when it came to fixing things up, but some of the mess I had to go through, wow! even I know that the way they did things was crap. To look at my stuff V.S. a pro, it isn't as good, and I know that but they will at least say that the method was correct, but the product needs fine tuning. By the time I'm done I will be a pro, because this house is a freaking mess ! Thank God I don't have to work on my truck, otherwise I couldn't hold a job from working on all my stuff.

 

wow! We're doing half our house for just over $1,000. Got 8 windows custom made to fit our 2 living rooms (31"x66"). I think the rest of the windows are a standard size so will be easier to get.

 

Oh !?! maybe I didn't mention I live in a 14th century castle, with moat and fire breathing dragons about the grounds, they're a pain in the ass, you can't have anything nice in the gardens because they trample, and the glass in the windows are always smoked up because they see there reflection, think it's another dragon and well ... you see the problem.

 

lmao Well, I'm hoping that since the rest of the windows we want to replace NOW are more standard they'll be cheaper. lol Not sure about that though.

As for putting them in, my father in law will be here doing most of the work. Or at least telling us what to do. I'll try to remember how it goes though! You can come down and take notes if you want! We don't have dragons..... Just 3 small demons and 4 possessed cats. Oh, and a Ninja chinchilla.

The very first remodel I did was my hall bathroom. I thought I knew how to do anything and everything. I made many mistakes and every time I use that bathroom, I just want to gut it and start from scratch.

The point I was trying to get across is learn about what it is you are going to be doing BEFORE you do it.

I picked up on ceramic tile by reading an old B&D book. My first attempt was the hall bathroom. By my tenth bathroom remodel I was pretty good, well, nobody complained that is.

I suck at finish carpentry, but I like to do it. Every time I go over to my neighbors house, he is a master carpenter, I get all these ideas in my head about what to do next. But they never turn out as good as his. Of course he has 30+ years in doing carpentry. Now on the other hand, if he has a side job that requires some plumbing or hvac, he asks me to do it, even though he probably could do it.

You can do pretty much anything as long as you have the knowledge. Skill comes with practice.

Wow ! do I sense a bit of bitterness ? Are you sour ? I can cure that if you donate 10% of this months check to the remodeling fund at my address.

 

I bet we have a concrete plant near by, I'll see what I can do, and now that petrol is so high, concrete is a sound choice. About $96.50 a yard.
